Black Soft Putty on Black Tank Vent

Was checking a few things this morning and noticed that my vent pipe entrance to the back tank appears to be "unsealed". The putty used by Newmar is actually up the pipe about two inches, almost as if the tank was moving up and down by that much. It doesn't smell and no signs of leakage, but I would like to re-apply the putty that was used. Does anyone know what this soft pliable black putty is?

I don't know what the sealant is but I think it's more likely that the vent pipe worked its way up that high rather than the tank bouncing that much. You might want to also check the seal for that pipe o the roof.

There should be a seal at the tank entrance on top of tank that should be tight.
Had a 3" PIPE fall out of floor flange for toilet into the black tank and slipping out of floor flange because it was never glued and crated a mess one day when traveling.
When I re-lifted the 3" pipe up to glue back into the floor flange the collar around pipe was tight but with pulling pressure and twisting was able to gain the pipe necessary to glue back in floor flange.
Would think the vent pipe would have same collar.

Would they actually hard fix the pipe to the tank? I would think it would be some type of slip joint to allow motion since things move so much.

Also, roof vent was replaced, wondering if someone pulled the pipe up for some reason because there is no extra pipe on the roof. There are no indications of any leakage either at the tank or the roof.

You might call it a slip collar in cutout hole of tank and pipe slips into.
The pipe will turn but very tight if you pull to hard instead of twisting back and forth while lifting pipe could pull slip collar from top of tank.

I think the putty was put over the slip collar by Newmar, getting a little on the pipe so it is likely not the primary seal. Not sure why pipe is higher but am thinking previous owner pulled pipe up with new roof vent. Everything seems secure, no smell and no sign of leakage so I am now thinking if it isn't broke leave it alone.

If the vent pipe had dropped into tank, when water level met the dropped pipe vent you lost the venting on the black tank and any time you flushed the water may spit back at you and odors in tank would smell up bathroom.
PO must have lifted the vent pipe up to restore venting of tank.
