Black tank lvl. Indicator:

2008 Essex (4502)

Does anyone have an idea WHY the BLACK tank level indicator (digital readout) has started to act goofy? As has always been normal, when black tank has been emptied, the readouts will stay at "0" until content's get to some level that generates a readout showing "5" and this numerical number will climb over a period of time and usage on upwards supposedly up to max tank capacity of "45." Although we've never run it up to a readout of "45", it has been up in the upper "30's" (37-38-39).

Anyway, recently we've encountered a goofy readout scenario. The black tank level readout will reach "27" and then upon moving up to "28" the readout just keeps running on up to a "45" readout in a matter of seconds!! At "27" it'll stay displayed, but if ya add content so readout goes to "28"....bingo....it's a run to the max.

Now we caught all this and we knew from flushing sounds, odors, etc. etc., that the tank was gettin full even though readouts only showed say 23, or 25, or so, and we have learned to adapt, BUT.....after flushing and re-flushing, and re-re-flushing over the course of a couple months, and traveling with a flushed then filled tank for up to 300 miles, we can't seem to clear the problem (ie., clear sensors or whatever). Now, when we purchased this rig, we were told that the tank level monitoring was based on WEIGHT of fluid in the respective tank (black, gray, fresh). If so, if it's a weight sensor, WHERE IS IT? IS IT FIXABLE??

Anybody know????

Thanks.

Steve

I was fascinated by the idea of weight sensors for your tanks. I googled the idea of black tank weight sensors and got nothing. Didn't see how a tank that could weigh over 1000 lbs. full could only be supported by weight sensors. I found a link to programming your Silverleaf system and found an answer.
The system has a water pressure sensor that measures the height of the column of liquid in the tank, not weight. The following link shows how one model can be calibrated by emptying the tank, zeroing out the value, then filling it and marking that value. I don't know if you have this model, numbers might be different for yours. The pressure sensor could be fouled or faulty, it might need to be checked. If you knew where it was in the tank you might be able to direct a tank flush wand towards it and make sure it wasn't fouled.

Bob & Donna (BFlinn181):

Yup, I think it's time to talk with Nappanee (Newmar) and see if I can get some solutions. I don't even know whether it is a "Silverleaf" system or not. Still learnin as I go!!
