Broken down on the way to Florida

Broken down on the way to Florida, does the generator charge the chassis batteries? I need to leave the key on for two hours to see if the codes will clear but don’t know if the generator charges the chassis batteries .

I believe the generator should charge all batteries; house and chassis. Good luck.

Hi vfauto,
Sorry to hear of your troubles. The generator will charge both the house and chassis batteries. You BIM system does this. Consider obtaining a Scan Guage. One if the many features is that it will clear ECM trouble codes. Go to https://www.scangauge.com/products/scangauge-d/ and read about it. I have one for the coach and one for the toad.

Caution: There is a different model for diesels and gas. I gave you the URL for diesel.

The generator charges the house batteries first, then when they’re full it will charge the chassis batteries. HTH

You probably have a small solar panel which will also charge the chassis batteries.

If you have the small 12" solar charging set up for the chassis batteries it should be at the back right side of the coach. Not sure if you leave the key turned on if it will maintain the batteries but I suspect it would.

I have been there and feel your pain. Nothing worse than to be broken down trying to find a way out of trouble. I hope it all works out for you in a timely manner.

You can check quickly with a voltmeter.

You probably have a emergency start button to combine the batteries that you can prop with a pencil. A few hours will not hurt it and probably could run it non stop but I do not know your setup.

I ordered the Scan Guage and had to return it because the diesel gauge would not plug into my ecm.

Scan Guage Installation

Gary, I am new to the RVing world but have pulled travel trailers for many years. Could you let me know how you installed the scan gauge and maybe a picture or two? I like the ability to monitor the mileage, instant mileage and the battery charge. We have a 2016 DS. Thanks in advance, Joe

Why can’t you monitor it with stock dash light bar?
