Broken latch on battery drawer

I checked the water levels on my batteries and the latch on the battery drawer broke. Below is a photo of a part that fell off!

I can't figure out where the part goes, how to put it back together. I managed to close the tray, and gently close the hatch door, so my batteries aren't exposed to the elements at the moment, but I'd like to get it fixed.

I went and asked 3 other Newmar owners in the RV campground but they have different battery trays.

Would any of you be able to send photos of the latch of a 2007 Kountry Star 3910 so I can figure out how to put my latch back together?

Thanks a billion.

Hi vavroom,
This looks like the part that travels up or down as one lifts the latch. Since the entire latch is welded in place this may not be an easy fix. Consider contacting Newmar CS. Those guys have a way to do just about anything. Also consider leaving it broken! When moving the tray you know how difficult it is and the amount of energy required to get it to move. Along with the shortness of the cables and I doubt the tray is going anyplace but where you leave it.

The battery tray latch on my '06 Dutch Star broke the same way. Rather than try to find a replacement I bought a couple of pins and drilled holes through the frame and tray and use the pins to hold the tray in place.

The fix has worked for several years, and I don't have to worry about the tray moving during travel. Good luck!

I have the same latch on my Ventana. I haven't had an issues yet, but my battery tray came with pins that drop down thru the tray rails on each side in the front. I believe the pins (1/4" dia.) would be sufficient to keep the tray from moving without the latch.

I agree. When I rebuilt my tray and expanded my battery bank from 6 to 8, I didn't trust the latch alone. Someone here posted a photo of theirs. I drilled a hole for a standard pin used on a receiver hitch. I was going to put one on each side, but it was so secure by the one, I felt it was unecessary.

Thanks everyone! I think I might end up going for the drill a hole and add a pin solution!
