That piece just slides left/right. On the bottom of the refer doors are screw in pins that slide into that plastic. I think it's a custom Newmar contraption but works well.

That's the whole lock. Just like the one on my Whirlpool. There should be small buttons on the bottom of the refrigerator door and one on top of the freezer door. The buttons/pin align with the lock as it slides left and right. Close doors and slide to the left to lock. Those pins are adjustable up and down. I just remove that lock and installed a frog fixer lock. There are several threads that show pictures of both. I place pictures in Member galleries under my signature.

Piece of information. ..this lock will not withstand any substantial force from within. ..by design.
Safety feature so anyone locked in can get out. Also will allow something like a shifting watermelon on a very bumpy road to open door and spill contents😡.
I augment mine with a velcro strap.

Wow I sure missed that one. I have been wrapping a Velcro piece around the handles for months now. It certainly does take a village. Thanks a lot.

You want the pins that come down from the bottom of the doors to be somewhat tight (extended) so the right/left slider lock doesn't move while driving. I had mine a bit loose at first and doors opened while on the road :( I unscrewed them to lengthen them so they are more firm in the plastic guide and prevent it from moving left/right and unlocking on you.

Our doors opened up at one stop. I am sure I had it locked, but from now on I use a Velcro strap on the handles.

Unscrew the pins on the bottom of the doors more so it's a more snug fit into the lock mechanism. The pressure from the pins being further extended prevents the plastic slide from moving. I did not have mine extended enough and this happened to me too.

We do somewhat the opposite (of using velcro) and use those small diameter spring loaded bars commonly found at camping stores to hold-back refrigerated items in place in addition to locking the door on our residential fridge.

The rods didn’t work for me. I went to plastic bins like Tupperware to organize and hold things and it works great. I’ll have to find my thread on this site about the ones I found if anyone is interested. Amazon sells them but i got all my stuff from Kroger.
