Bypassing the Generator Computer
I've owned my coach for 3+ years and the generator would not run for more than an hour or two at a time for that whole period. When it shuts down, it flashes a code 37. I do not run the generator that often but I would like to take care of this problem.
To help troubleshoot, I direct wired the fuel pump. Before I started the generator, I would flip the switch to provide 12V to the pump. With that setup, I could run the generator for days. That made me think that the problem is either the solenoid or the computer.
The next troubleshooting step was to replace the solenoid. The old solenoids on my generator were not sealed so I replaced all three of them with the new sealed solenoids.
That did not fix the problem so I'm thinking computer. I would like to get this fixed but I do not want to spend $700+ for the new computer.
I have some electronics skills so I want to build a circuit that will sense a voltage and actuate the relay. The voltage could be constant or momentary. It would also sense a shutdown signal and de-actuate the relay.
I want to be able to start and stop the generator from the dash and from the switch on the generator. I would also like for the AGS to work.
Has anyone done this and/or do you know where I can pick up the signals?
I would mount all of this in a box and put the box in the generator housing. I'll use parts that can withstand the heat.
