Anyone have experience with these western NC sites? Particularly interested in the challenges of getting to them. We just moved up to 34' length and are a little novice in driving it.

We had a 36' Holiday Rambler with a toad and had no problem getting to Campfire Lodgings. Its a steep road and would not like to meet another RV on it at spots, but we did fine. I intend on taking a 40' up this fall. we were there in late March and had snow. We were looking down at the top of the traffic helicopters doing traffic reports below! Great campground, worth the trip up.

We stayed near Asheville at Campfire Lodging. Sorry

We have made the trip to Mountain Falls in our 43" Dutch Star from the south near Clemson via routes 130 to 281 with no problem. We have also traveled to/from Mountain Falls from the east, via route 64 with good results. Yes, the routes include hills and bends with one lane in each direction but nothing to give you undo concern. There are areas on both roads where you may want pull over to let the people in cars in hurry rush past you but you and the trailer trucks serving the area will be just fine.

Mountain Falls is a very nice place. Depends on the activities you are interested in. The place is in the middle of nowhere. Go to Driving Directions - Mountain Falls Luxury Motorcoach Resort for directions and warnings on how to get to Mountain Falls. Once you leave the Interstate, take your time getting the last few miles.

Just returned from Mountain Falls. took 85 out of Atlanta to SC take exit 1 at end of ramp turn left approx 32 miles to highway # 130 to 130 NC281N for 19 more miles then RT on 64E drove a 45ft with no problems. Some disconnect the toad before going up the mountain, but not necessary. It was a great place.

We have stayed at both places in our 40' and would go back to each. At Campfire Lodgings, it is a narrow road with some tight turns and was very dusty the day I went up. Will un-hook before going up on my next trip. Great views.

Mountain Falls is a great place as well and I have come in from both directions. The last few miles on the route in from Asheville is very, very curvey. But the big 45' coaches do it all the time.

Just take your time, keep moving, don't let the cars in back of you get you rattled and you should be fine.

We stayed at Campfire Lodgings with our 40 foot Monaco. Went in at night during rain with no problems. They have a turn around at the end of the row that works with a few back and forth. Great place and the view is the best. There was a 45 Essex in there when I was there and this year we are going in our new to us 45 Travel Supreme. Daylight would be best. They have the check in late on purpose so you do not meet RV's leaving. Have fun Buck

Comparing Campfire Lodgings and Mountain Falls is apples and oranges. The one thing they have in common is, they both have beautiful mountain views.

At Campfire Lodgings the entrance road is a steep, narrow and winding gravel road. We did it with our 43' coach, toad attached, but I'm glad we did not meet another vehicle, especially another coach, going the opposite direction. You'll need one of the bluff side sites and the views are spectacular. It's more of a traditional "campground" in that its all narrow gravel roads, minimal facilities. Here it's all about the location and the views.

Mountain Falls is a high end RV park (formerly an Outdoors Resort). Everything is paved and the landscaping is something out of a garden magazine. You'll have the company of many Prevost and Newells, as well as anything and everything else that meets the class A requirement. It is beautiful, you may or may not have mountain views, depending on where you are parked. If going I suggest following the directions given on their web site, especially for someone not yet 100% confident in their driving.
