We're in Michigan and have been doing this for 15 years. We leave the liability on so it's covered for fire, theft, or damage while not being driven. If you're not sure what you can/can't turn off, just call your agent and they will know what you must leave on.

We've done this with financed RVs and owned RVs.

In Michigan, I need to have full coverage turned back on for a day when I have to pay the annual registration fee in December. I call my agent back after I've paid the state and get the policy put back into hiatus. There's nothing sneaky or "semi-legal" about this process.

This is what we do. I keep only comprehensive while our coach is in storage from November 1 to April 1. State Farm (our insurer) requires full coverage though, if you have a note on the RV.

I don’t know about Michigan but in every other state I’ve been in the liability portion only covers you for damage you do to others. The items you wrote about are covered by the comprehensive portion that you seem to be canceling.

Oops! Ray, you're right, I meant to say comprehensive.

I’m with State Farm. Insurance on new coach is $2600 a year. We picked up coach on 3/4/20. COVID hit and we parked it in the barn. Called my agent and dropped collision and comprehensive. Got a $1200 refund. Now we are planning to take the coach out, so I called back to reinstate that coverage. They will be sending me a bill for about $700, so I got some saving.

As 777 Driver stated, check with your DMV also. In NY you have to maintain insurance on a registered vehicle. Insurance companies report any lapse in coverage electronically and there are fines.
