Canyon Star 3642

I'm looking at a used Canyon Star Model 3642 and wondering what owners feel about the bedroom step-up? Seems like a tripping/stumbling point in the dark?

Any thoughts about the step-up or any other comments about this model?

Thanks!

When your main slide is in you will have to walk down aisle with floor raise from slide, is all in getting use to doing.
A Brochure for CS.
At night you would have courtesy lights that would light up that area.
The step is probably for the additional storage bays under the bedroom.

No problem with the step up with ours it gives you a lot of storage under the coach We love everything about our coach and would love to have the same floor plan in a diesel

with that step you have a lot more storage underneath, I really like that floorplan.

Our 3410 has a step up into the bedroom, it is right at the door so it is a natural transition area, we don't notice it at all. As 007 says, there is a small light at the step which illuminates it if desired. We also love the extra bay storage the step up allows.

Canyon Star 3642 replies

Thanks to all for the replies! Now my big question is whether to go for the CS model 3642 with a Workhorse chassis or Ford chassis? (I know of a 2011 CS 3642 with the Workhorse/Allison).

My current coach is built on the Workhorse 8.1L chassis with the Allison 1000 transmission and pulls a 29' Safari Trek. I've had it since 2005 and generally like the Workhorse/Allison combination. My biggest disappointment with the Workhorse is smoking brakes on long down hills with the Grade Brake feature on and the tranny going into second gear at times.

My biggest concern with the Ford F53 is what I've read that the Ford engine runs at higher rpms (noiser in the cabin), and the frequent downshifting of the Ford tranny even on slight up hills.

I had many of the Henderson Lineup chassis modifications performed on my Workhorse, put on the Banks exhaust, and safety steer. Seems the Ford F53 needs much the same?

Any former Workhorse/now Ford F53 owners out there?

Any comments would be appreciated.

We've owned three GM/Workhorse coaches, two Tiffin Allegros & one Winnebago. Now we own a 2013 Newmar Canyon Star 3911 on Ford chassis.

Sorry, accidentally hit send button before I finished.

No question, go with Ford chassis. Main reason is GM sold to Workhorse. Workhorse out of business. Ford Truck Centers are everywhere.

Love the Canyon Star on the Ford chassis. Plenty of power. Tow/Haul feature is great.

We just purchased a used 2011 Canyon Star 3856 last week. It has a bedroom step up. It was a concern when we first looked at it. But, we decided that the extra basement storage, the night light on the step, the perfect floor plan and Newmar quality out weighed the concern. We figured that it was something that we would get used to in a hurry.

My 2014 Newmar Canyon Star 3956 has the step from vinyl tile floor to carpet in the bed room. A night light on the floor guides the way, so no problem stepping up or down.
My last coach was on a workhorse and it ran great. Now I am on the Ford chassis 26000 lb with no issues up and down the hills. I tow a heavy car so my engine works a little harder but get's it done.
