Question Canyon Star Listing to Port

We have a 2014 Canyon Star 3920. It appears to be EXTREMELY heavy on the driver's side. I can find no place to get corner weights locally. I think the port side is far heavier due to the Propane tank, Generator, 4 lead-acid House batteries, residential refrigerator, sink, dinette, and full wall slide.

Does anyone else with the toy hauler have this issue? The coach visibly leans to the left when setting on level ground, but it drives and tracks perfectly. I have had the alignment checked and adjusted.

If it is heavy on one side you can do a couple of things. You can take it to a spring shop where they can pull the springs and re arc them. The other and probably simplest solution would be to add some air bags to the rear. Often they'll give a better ride and you can adjust the height.

FWIW our 2008 F53 listed to port as well. Like yours tracked straight and true and was a dream to drive. I did get axle weights done and we were way under.

I think it may just be a "feature" of the F53 as I've seen others look that way too.

Thanks, Don. I never considered Air Bags as an add-on. I thought that had to be built-in. If we stay with the CS I'll consider that. I'm enamored with the power of a DSDP, but I'd have a hard time giving up the garage of the toy hauler! We use it for EVERYTHING.

If it is leaning and tracks perfect, sounds to me it is a known issue that is compensated for in the suspension setup to drive....shame it wasn't compensated for in the distribution of weight to begin with...

Canyon Star Listing to Port

See if Newmar can give you the four corner weights when it left the factory. They had the weights for my 2017 Bay Star. This will give you a starting point.

Have your coach number (or VIN number) ready when you contact them.

Our ‘15 CS 3921 was also heavier on the drivers side. I think the gassers with a large Full Wall Slide all leave the factory a bit heavier on the driver side. Most of the basement storage is on the passenger side as well as seating when underway.

After we were loaded I got my 4 corner weights and had to make some adjustments to compensate how I loaded. Moving heavy items like the cast iron griddle to under the couch on the passenger side was an easy 50lb offset (-25 on driver, +25 on passenger).

I also changed how I loaded the items in the garage and that made the biggest difference. It also helped move the weight to the rear axle which had more capacity available.

Also make sure you measure your 4 corner weight with the fresh water in your loaded config. On the 3921 about 75% of the tank was on the passenger side unlike the diesels which are pretty equally balanced. So the factory weight won’t have that same skew. 75gal at 8.35lb each is 626lb, in our CS the difference side to side would be 313lb.

Bottom line you need the weights to accurately assess. Good luck.

Leaning

Our 2019 3124 Bay Star was leaning on the right front (don't remember how much right now...). We had the service center put a spacer over the axle to raise it up.

I’m wondering if some Sumo Springs would help? You could start with the front ones first.

Go to a spring shop and have a spacer installed on the low side.

That's what's used for all of the time to correct your problem.

not sure if I answered this in another blog. I a similar issue in a previous motor home. It had a incorrectly installed rear shim which the factory replaced and all was well. Incorrect shim in rear had it leaning in the front.
