There are two mattress options for the CS. One is a "plush pillow top mattress" and the other one is a "sleep number deluxe air mattress". I have not found a comfortable mattress in a S&B and end up a lot on the couch. I do sleep fairly good on our regular mattress in our current coach. What is the standard mattress like?

What are ya'll opinions of the three options? I have read a lot of good and bad about the "air mattress". I have a bad back, arthritic shoulder and a bad knee and it is hard to find a comfortable position. We bought a $100 foam topper and it was way to soft. We have a $3000 pillow top mattress leaning up against the wall being it has developed valleys.

I personally have a sleep number bed at home and love it. We just ordered a 2015 Ventana with the sleep number option because of the simple fact that we've slept so good the last 4 years since we've purchased our home bed.

With a sleep number you can set the bed as soft or as hard as you want so no need to worry about foam toppers or anything else. You also have individual control of firmness for your side of the bed and your significant others side of the bed. I actually change my sleep number setting every so often as I change in weight. The less I weight the stiffer I prefer the bed, the more I weight the softer I set it. Thats why the bed is so nice. Hope this helps your decision.

I am bumping this to hope to get some more responses. I need to decide while at the Tampa RV Supershow if we want any of the options or to just get the standard model. I have sleep issues and have tried a lot of mattresses. Surprisingly I sleep great on the standard mattress that came with my Tiffin, but it is wearing out fast. I am concerned that the pillow-top will get valleys made similar to the $3,000 one we have at home that we don't use anymore. I have tried memory foam toppers, but they are to soft and I get hot on them. I even tried a 4" one. Right now I am sleeping on a plain firm mattress at the S&B. If it is to soft my back is real stiff in the morning.

I hate to get a sleep number bed and I cannot sleep on it.

Can't answer your question but I tried a topper and found it too soft and hot.

I had a mattress made by these folks in Ollympic Queen size and it's perfect ... reasonably firm without being hard, returns to flat quickly after I get out of bed, very neutral temp (doesn't feel hot or cold). I got the 8" thick to fit the height of the bed side-stands.

We ordered the "plush pillow top mattress" option. It was great at first, but after 6 months of full time use, it had valleys and gave us backaches.

We replaced it with the 8" memory foam mattress mentioned above ("8" Luxury Cool-MAX® Gel Foam RV Mattress II"). Only had it a month at this point. So far, so good. It does sleep warmer than an innerspring mattress. Apparently that is common for memory foam mattresses.

I had a SN in my Winnebago. We really liked and thought we would miss it. Our Canyon Star has the pillow top. It's very comfortable. No regrets.

Mattress Options: I don't own an RV, but hope to soon. We have slept on a Sleep Number mattress in our home since they first came out. It is a dream come true. No more to hard or soft mattress. Any RV i purchase will come with or I will onstall one. Just find your comfort "number" mine is 55/60. My wife is the same. You seldom need to adjust the pressure. Good Luck with your selection. We have the plush pillow top mattress and have no regrets. We did buy a nice thick mattress cover for it at Costco, which made it really comfortable. I have the same issues with my back and shoulder as you do and I sleep great in our bed. We have a high end Tempurpedic type mattress in the house, and I sleep better in the MH. We have not full timed but we have spent at least 100 nights in it so far and we have not had any sagging ect in the mattress.

When we ordered our DSDP we went with the pillow top option and frankly it's as good as any mattress we've ever had and we still get a very restful night on it.

We have the SN mattress in our Canyon Star and I like it as my husband and I like very different firmnesses in the mattress. You do have to reset it when you change elevation but now that we figured that out, duh, it's easy to do. Hubbie still wants to put a memory foam topper on it but then I remind him how hot they are and he changes his mind.

A mattress is such a personal thing, so no one can really give you the best advice for YOU. Personally, I think the Sleep Number mattress leaves a lot to be desired....but that's just me. I'm looking around for a custom built memory foam mattress that can be cut to the RV king size with two rounded corners. So far, not much luck. I know Mattress Insider can do one , but an 8 incher leaves me with a not-so -soft bed. It really needs to be closer to 12 inches thick, in my opinion.

I just got my 2012 CS and have been sleeping on the sleep number for over a month. After the first few days I bought a memory foam mattress topper from SAMS that is 2" thick and has a hot and a cool (gel) side, and I got it on sale. So far I love the sleep number WITH the topper. Without the topper I was feeling the framing around the air bladders. I also put a very good quilted mattress pad over them both.

We just ordered a gel infused memory foam mattress to replace the standard mattress we gave on our DS. I would thing that even though a mattress us a personal matter, Newmar would try to provide an adequate mattress with such a nice coach.
