Canyon Star Options Questions
We like several of the new floor plans, but I have some questions about the options that are available for them.
1) There is three different color cabinet options for a cost of $2,478. It is for "Glazed Hardwood Face Frame Cabinets and Slideout Fascia". What is this?
2) High Definition Component Wiring with Bluray DVD Player for $1,114. Do the Newmar's not have HDMI setups?
3) Auto Motion Double Roller Window Shades for $1,694. What is this and doesn't the windows already have shades. Also does the windshield have motorized blackout and night shades?
4) There is a $735 cost for 600 watt inverter for TV's. Is there not a standard inverter already for this. The residential frig has a 2,000 watt inverter, so would I still need another one?
5) There is no option for 15.0 A/C's. Will two 13.5 models be enough for this model?
6) $441 for an auxiliary heater for bedroom. What is this?
7) Side view cameras displayed on rear view monitor screen with smart phone connection for $732. Don't the rear and side cameras already show on the monitor?
8) Does the skylight at the shower have a shade similar to what the Tiffin's have?
9) Is there a tripod/satellite connection somewhere? I am assuming there will be a cable connection also.

I can help with some of these, based on my research for our 2014 Canyon Star. Things may be a little different for 2015. So double check with your dealer or Newmar to make sure you get what you want.

Upgrade the cabinet face frames from veneer to solid hardwood.

I believe this upgrades from regular DVD to Bluray, and uses HDMI wiring throughout. I had hoped this would include an HDMI run from the front TV to the bedroom TV. It does not, they are separate systems. Instead it included two HDMI splitters at the front TV feeding two HDMI cables to a basement compartment (if I wanted an outside TV, which I don't).

Upgrade from pleated shades to MCD-style double roller shades. We really like the double roller shades.
Yes, windshield has motorized days and night shades.

In 2014 there was no standard inverter. So to watch TV without shore power or generator running, you needed to either get the optional one from Newmar, or do something aftermarket. We added a 2000 watt Magnum inverter that powers several circuits on a subpanel as part of an aftermarket solar install. Whatever approach you take, make sure you understand exactly what things the inverter powers and does not power so there's no misunderstanding.

We did two 13.5 heat pumps in our 3424 floorplan and have never wanted more, even with the temperatures in the high 90s.

Don't remember. Didn't get it.

This option adds the side view cameras. Without it, only have the rear camera. Never figured out or used the smart phone connection.

There is a cable connection and a switch to select between it and the crank up antenna.
I don't have satellite. Here's my understanding. The coach is prewired for satellite. The wiring terminates under a sealed plate on the roof. It runs to the front and bedroom TVs. You need a separate satellite receiver for each.
Hope this helps.

Due to the responses to the above question I know we would take the following options (1, 3 & 7. They are listed by my question number. I have additional questions concerning some of the other options.
#2 - Will there be a separate Bluray player for the bedroom being it not connected to the main system?
#4 - I would need to know what outlets this will cover. In my current coach I use the inverter while hooked up to power to keep power on in case of a slight hiccup in the power. This keeps the satellite receiver from doing a restart.
#6 - Don't know yet
#8 - This is not good - there is a lot of heat coming in the skylight that a cover of some type would keep.
#9 - This would be a DEAL BREAKER for us if I cannot hookup my portable dish. We will be getting a dish on the roof, but the portable/tripod setup would still be used a lot. Also will the satellite feed be sent to the exterior TV? If not this could also be a DEAL BREAKER. The setup I have now has a central location with HDMI going to all TV's.

As far as I know, Newmar does not offer portable satellite dish hook-up as a "standard" option, but the dealer can request it as a "special". I have requested this option on my Dutch Star order and Newmar is going to put it in the coach.

If your having you coach built to be picked up at Newmar give them a call and they can tell you what they can 't do and will do to build the coach to your wishes.
In QT's # 3 at top threads others have dealt with the people at Newmar and names are listed in their threads.
If you want items that are in higher end coach's than you may have to move up to get them, options do not move backward.

I did contact Newmar via email wanting to ask some questions and was told to call them next week. I will try to contact them by phone next week. If there are some must have's that are not available on the Canyon Star that I have on my Tiffin Allegro I may need to keep looking.
I am still hoping to get some more clarification via this board before then. I am leaving on a month long trip early next week and playing phone tag is not going to be on my agenda.
We will be going to the Tampa RV Supershow where we can see as many coaches as possible. I was wanting to have my favorites list to look at and compare apples to apples.

#2 - Will there be a separate Bluray player for the bedroom being it not connected to the main system? yes - we thoughelected to remove the player and have the cabinet made to a larger closet, you can see pics under my CS thread. If need we could add a portable or use my Wireless AV Transmitter.
#4 - I would need to know what outlets this will cover. In my current coach I use the inverter while hooked up to power to keep power on in case of a slight hiccup in the power. This keeps the satellite receiver from doing a restart. We have the 2000 watt inverter, it covers ALL TV's , Receptacles and Microwave as well as the Res. Fridge.
#6 - Don't know yet heater in Bedroom, you would have Two heaters for zone control, One propane heater works fine. Coach is very well built and insulated.
#8 - This is not good - there is a lot of heat coming in the skylight that a cover of some type would keep. Have not seen Tiffan, mine is Clear, have camp numerous times in open, Summer time, did not have a issue

[COLOR="red"] I did complain about this also, was not on the Option sheet , was told after the fact in could have been added. It took me about 3 hrs by myself to run another cable from the rear compartment to the front TV cabinet. I presently use a Wireless AV Transmitter to send the Satellite to the Bed room TV, since I only have on receiver. /COLOR]

Thanks for the response back again. I will take the 600 watt inverter option out being the one that comes with the frig will cover everything.
I don't like heat pumps so was not planning on doing that option. We seldom travel where it is extremely cold and when we do I have used standalone electric ones. Plus I am still hoping to get the fireplace option that is not on the price list. The bedroom heater would have simplified what I do now, but I would like to know more info about it.
The satellite setup is my biggest issue. I would like to be able to use only one receiver for all of the TV's. If Newmar cannot wire it this way I may be able to do it myself. On the 3612 model the entertainment center is over the center/LR TV. I already have two 35' HDMI cables that I could use. This brings up another question which is how many HDMI connections are on the Newmar TV's?

The rear bedroom TV (Sony) has two HDMI ports. I agree with the heat pump. YES... I would have had them wire the coach for Ground satellite, it WAS Not on their option sheet and I assumed. I would pay to have it wired as well have them add a HDMI cable from the Front Cabinet to the rear bedroom TV.
None of this should be a problem. We actual met Matt the owner. Her told us that their coaches are All made to order, and customs are not a problem.
For instance.... I had the dinette table made smaller, removed one of the couches and added to recliners, added auto lights to the bedroom closets and had the AV cabinet removed in the bedroom to makee two to large closets.
As stated before, the wireless receiver (*under $100) works well to send the Satellite channel to the rear BR TV.

I will assume that he is referring to Matt Miller, president of Newmar. His father was one of the original founders of the company.

Ruebenray, we have the 3610....3 tv's each have their own Blu ray player, all wired with Hi def TV cables, our sat Dish goes to our main TV but there is probably a way to get it to the others. Our regular TV antena works great and we get really good reception with it. We have the electric fireplace and it actually puts out alot of heat, so well worth the price to us. We do have the two penguin heat pumps, which I like to use more than the gas, and I think they are more designed for use in the mild cold climates, rather than freezing climates, the floor heater automatically overides the heat pumps below a certain temp. We have the shower skylight, which is tinted as well as double paned so to speak so there is no heat issue to worry about and no need for the skylight cover. The side cameras are a must in my opinion and leave no blind spots whatsoever. I would recommend the MDC shades, we love ours and they are easy bto maintain. We have the 600 watt inverter which is plenty for us. We have the fridge upgrade which is nice as you can keep as much food as you need with no problems. We have the central vacuum which works exceptionally well, and no need to take up space with a portable vacuum cleaner.
All in All we have about 18K in upgrades, and when you consider the discount we got it is really only about 13k extra. Some of the things may not be a "must" but are nice to have. The way Newmar builds these MH is great and the options they add are well tailored for their design. We went back and forth Tiffin 36LA/Newmar3610 as they are very similar. We are really glad we went with Newmar as we got a really good deal on ours, have only had a few minor problems, and it drives exceptionally well.

In my Tiffin the furnace keeps the wetbay warm with a duct running in it. Do the CS have this type of setup?
Also just to clarify something will the 2000 watt inverter that comes with the residential refrigerator be connected to the TV outlets as well or will I still need to get the 600 watt option?
