Canyon Star solar prep

Have completed deal on a 2016 Canyon Star 3710 that has the basic solar prep (not 6 ga).

Can anyone tell me about the cable size (10/8 ga) and where does the run terminate, adjacent to the battery compartment? Also, any recommendations on where to install the remote displays for solar controller and for battery monitor? I would imagine above the door where the other panels are, but I'm unsure how difficult it would be to run the cables.

I'm going to install at least 400 watts to hopefully be able to boondock while using my frigidaire 10 cf reefer while powered from the 1000 watt dedicated inverter plus minimal use of TV.

Thanks!

Wes

Ours has the solar prep and the wires/fuse run down to where the batteries are in the engine compartment and are capped off. Not sure of the gauge but it is fairly good size. In the panel above the door where the other electrical monitors/panels, switches ect are, there is a tab over a good size open area that is marked "solar panel prep". My understanding is there are wires behind that panel for adding the monitors you are talking about. I haven't added solar yet but I'm considering it.

Just picked up our 16 3710 CS yesterday from the dealer. Our solar prep stub wires are in the first bay door on the passenger side. was told they are 10 gauge and also have a spot above the coach door in the control panel marked solar prep for the monitor just as Mike & Cha reported. Have an acess plate about mid way on the roof marked solar prep as well. I will be interested to see yours when you get the panels installed.

Thanks for the reply! I climbed on the roof and saw the access plate while at the dealer, but I didn't find the wires in the bay and didn't look at the control panel very closely.

Sounds like I will have to run my own cables from the passenger bay to the battery bay on the drivers side, locating the controller in the passenger bay. Isn't that the same bay where the converter is?

If you could take a picture of the control panel showing what you describe I would appreciate it. I'm anxious to get planning so I'm mostly ready when I pick up the RV in a few weeks.

BTW, what fridge did you get?

Can you tell me if that is a CAT 5 (RJ45 network cable) or a phone (RJ12) cable?

I'm assuming that cable runs into the cabinet for connecting a monitor for the solar controller.

In my current RV solar install I do not have a remote display for the charger, I just rely on the Victron 700 battery monitor to display what is going on with the batteries (amps in/out, AH in/out, % charge, etc.). The Victron uses a phone type cable between the shunt and the meter.

Thanks again!

Wes
