Cargo Locks Inop

Today, I checked our 2017 Dutch Star 4369 in storage and found the electric cargo locks are inoperable. The door keypad, remote fob, and inside switch will not work. I checked the fuse in the DS fore compartment and 20 amp fuse is OK. Any suggestions what might cause this?

p.s. the entry door lock works at the keypad.

Rex

What shape are the batteries in?

Had similar problems with my 2015 DS. Had to replace 3 lock actuators . The low voltage in the batteries after being stored over Covid caused high current and damaged the actuator.in the locked position the key would not work until the actuator link rod was disconnected was a little awkward on some of the doors to access the Removable access panel. I may have some fotos to fwd.

Thanks for the replies. I have the Dutch Star plugged into 30 amp electrical while in storage. I assume that is keeping the house and chassis batteries charged. Am I correct?

Yes, but you need to check for a malfunction in the charging system to know for sure if voltage is ok since you are having a problem.

Am I correct that the cargo locks operate off the chassis batteries?

If so, how best to check the system?

Giving it some thought, I am guessing the cargo locks are on the chassis batteries. I have an ohm meter. What should I check to determine if the batteries are properly charging while on 30 amp power?

I would make sure your panel shows the inverter/charger is charging (float, absorb, etc.) - note the voltage. Then go to the chassis batteries and check voltage there with your multimeter. Should be close to the voltage your I/C shows.

If voltage is low, check at your coach batteries. If good there, check voltage at the BIM.

When storing on shore power and properly charging my chassis batteries read 12.8 or so to 13 volts. It will change slightly from time to time. If chassis batts are not being charged they will be weak to dead in several weeks of storage. I replaced chassis batts several years ago & afterwards I lost cargo door and toilet function. I found nothing wrong so I called Newmar. They had me reboot coach & it worked. I unplug from shore, salesman switch off, inverter off & give it a few minutes then power back up.

The Magnum panel shows float charging at 12.8 volts. So, it's not the house batteries.

The chassis batteries are toast at 9.4 volts. Easy to replace but I need to determine why they are not charging while connected to 30 amp shore power.

Any ideas of where to look?

You have a bridging solenoid in the power cord real bay. That is what allows chassis batts to charge from the house batt bank. I assume nothing else has changed and you haven't changed any settings on the magnum?

No changes on the Magnum system. I suspect the battery isolation manager you are referring to is bad.

The two starting batteries are maintenance free. At 5 years old, they may have just gone belly up. I know another member on here had is 2018 DS starting batteries quit at three years.

I've been servicing my maintenance free batteries on my coach by cutting open the labels, removing the caps and adding water.

I would install two new batteries and then check to see if the starting batteries are getting a charge from the inverter/charger.

Don,

Thanks, Following your advice, what is the best way to test the charging system after installing new batteries? If I check the voltage at the battery am I not measuring the battery voltage and not the charging voltage?
