Ceiling Puck Light Removal Tool

I usually get pretty good ideas from this forum, so I thought that I would share one...
Removing the ceiling puck lights for replacement using the recommended plastic putty scrapers is not easy or convenient... I was in Home Depot a few days ago and spotted this mini crow bar of sorts for $6 something - worth a try...
It works GREAT you aren't pushing up against the ceiling material, you just hook it under the rim and pull down or you can rock gently with the angle it against the ceiling for more leverage if needed... It is not for the ones that are screwed into the ceiling...

Thanks for the tip. But how do those darn things come down? I tried pulling one with my hand and thought it was going to snap off. Are they hinges or something?

Ceiling Puck Light Removal
Tomato
1st try unscrewing the lens - if it unscrews, it will reveal 3 screws holding the unit to the ceiling
2nd - If the lense doesn't unscrew, you have the one piece units like me... Some say using a plastic putty knife to dislodge it, but I wasn't very successful at that mainly because your hand is pushing up into the ceiling... The little tool that I found at Home Depot lets you get between the ceiling and the lense and then you can work it down...
Once you pull the light fixture out you will find it's wires up in the ceiling, just pull them out a bit... You may have to splice in the new leads, but my '18 has connectors called Scotch Loks, which are pretty ingenious - I bought a pack of those and while it isn't real easy to get them opened, you can do it and then just install new Scotch Loks - relatively easy, but slow...
Have FUN

They pull out as a complete unit, some with springs like a mouse trap and others with three pressure slide clamps. They do not screw in to the ceiling. Remove the lens by twisting it off and then pry under the frame between frame and ceiling. Pull straight down slowly, especially if they have the spring loaded mouse type clamp... they will hurt for sure.
