I feel like the biggest dummy in all the world. After posting #14 talking about what I used to do I thought about your post and starting digging around in cabinets to find a Sony remote, which I had completely forgot ever having and hadn't used in probably 4-5 years. Guess I kept thinking the remote I'm using with the Sony TVs as a Sony remote, but it's really a Directv remote.
Using the Sony remote I was able to receive 30 digital OTA channels.
I've done some dumb things in my life but this has to be right up there with the worst, and taking up so much time from so many Posters doesn't help my feelings either. Sorry fellows.

YOur universal remote has a switch near the top that shows the satellite receiver (typically a globe), AV1, AV2 and TV. Move the switch to TV, press the menu button, in the TV screen look for something that looks like "channels", click that and select memorize channels. THe process takes a few minutes, then you should be able to select channels using the channel up or down button. WHen you go back to satellite, move the remote switch to the globe or satellite figure.
Hope this helps.
Bob

If all you want to do is switch your input to the TV from satellite to the batear's. MH has a switching device that has the input devices on one side and output to TV's on the other side. That's how I would control my input to the TV. Or, just switch the coax.

I turned on the antenna booster, the light came on, and raised the batwing antenna. I used the remote to change TV Input from Satellite to TV but I ended up with a blank screen showing only a little box that looks like a miniture TV in upper left corner of screen. There was a notation in the lower part of the screen saying "no signal" and a channel number in upper right corner showing 20.1. Other than that I'm lost.
Nothing works past that. Nothing I press on the remote makes any changes so now I know not what to do. Anyone switches a lot, or any, back and forth between satellite and OTA that might know what I do now?

Depending on the TV type you will need to do the following from the TV remote:
1. Home (or Menu)
2. Option
3. Initial Setting
4. Say 'Yes" to auto tuning or just keep clicking 'yes'
5. Wait for Results.
This assumes that you have a digital antenna - it won't do much with the old bat wing analog antenna. I got the King Jack, which replaces the top on the fold down unit. You are going to have to try several times with the antenna pointed indifferent directions to get the most stations. It's a bit a a pain, but I find the picture to be excellent most of the time.

If that is your only remote, how did you work the satellite system?

Don't feel bad - I did something similar. I need a system that has two settings - on or off.

Batwing OTA
A permanent solution to twisting the batwing around can be upgrading to a King Omnipro Omnidirectional OTA (or similar) antenna. You probably still have to do a scan on the TV, but you'll have better success locating stations.

The old batwing work great with digital transmission. The only thing you need to do is add the UHF small element to the batwins. Almost all digital TV digital brocast is in the UHF frequency range. It cost like $35 for the element and takes may 15 minutes once your are on the roof.
The antenna works great. It's all in the TV digital reception.
