Charge Bridge Solenoid Part Number??

Good Morning,

I have determined my White Rodgers Charge Bridge Solenoid has failed and I would like to order one on Amazon today so I may get it quickly, yet there is no part number sticker or any other identifying part number upon it. I have checked Newmar Newgle with no luck either... Has anyone replaced theirs on any recent year coach equipped with Silverleaf?

From Newgle: CHARGE BRIDGE SOLENOID
All current model New Aire, Mountain Aire, London Aire, Essex, and King Aire coaches use Silverleaf, a computerized coach management system.

One of its many functions is to control the battery charging through the Charge Bridge Solenoid. The TM102 module monitors the battery state and senses the house and chassis battery voltage. When the parameters are met, the TM102 module activates the solenoid, causing it to bridge or connect the chassis and house battery banks.

For more information on your coach's TM102 module, refer to the SilverLeaf Functional Guide in Newgle.

Thank you, Jeff 2016 Essex

Hers is the solenoid relay I used: https://octopart.com/586-903-white+rodgers-18775474. Unfortunately they are not manufactured any more, because, having a 15V coil, it was ideal for battery charging applications. They are available here on eBay or Amazon, but they are more expensive than the 12V replacement.

The Newmar part for your coach with Silverleaf is White Rodgers 586-902 here in Comnet. It has a 12V coil.

Amazon has some of the 12V ones here.

Here's the technical reason why I think the 15V version is superior to the 12V version, at least in my application using a BIRD:

It has a 15V coil which worked well in my application with the coach being plugged in 90% of the time (12V coils don't like 14V being applied all the time). The 15V version will pick up at 11.25V and the max rated voltage is 16.5V, ideal for a lead acid battery install IMHO. The 12V version is max rated at 13.2V, too low for the 13.8V float voltage required by my batteries.

Maybe the Silverleaf folks have thought about this and the TM102 does not drive the solenoid relay with full battery voltage all the time, but if you smell a burning odor from the relay you may want to consider using the 15V version, that burning odor is the result of the coil being overheated due to constantly being run over the rating.

Stewart - THANK YOU so much! I will now call around to see if I might find one locally, and if not, order from Amazon and get it Sunday

What tipped me off that I had a problem was that my coach push button exterior entry door locking system locked itself, and being puzzled, I checked the voltage which was down to 3.4 last night.

I next disconnected the chassis batteries via the red shut-off switch in the chassis battery compartment and awoke to find the batteries presently at 9.6 volts.

Two questions related to that... do you think the chassis batteries must now be replaced? Is there a safe procedure to use a standard automotive battery charger to charge the two chassis batteries that are connected together? THANK YOU AGAIN!

You're very welcome!

I believe you may have caught it soon enough to save the chassis batteries. At 9.6V a battery charger should be able to charge them, even the new, "safe" types that require voltage on the battery to work. I'd hook it up and monitor it for a while until the voltage gets up to about 12V, it it takes forever you've got a shorted cell and the batteries will need replacement.

Regarding a safe procedure, I'd pull the battery trays out as far as they go and connect the charger, this way if there's a lot of hydrogen produced it won't accumulate anywhere.

Also, if the chassis batteries are flooded you should use a hydrometer to check the specific gravity of the cells, you'll be able to find weak or dead cells that way.
