Is this also a RV thing or do I just have a bunch of friends that do this??

There's no way even the cheapest vodka comes anywhere close to the price of either bleach or anti-freeze. What's the point?

This may not be a great idea. For years we too used Vodka in our sail boat as antifreeze during our winterization procedures. We never had issues. But..we have recently discovered that this can contribute to mold growth.

I cannot say with any scientific proof, but after my Wife suffered from an unrelated mold incident that almost killed her, we no longer do this. Maybe some one can chime in. We hate using the "Pink Antifreeze" but do so now.

BTW, we always add a capful of pure bleach to each refill of RV or Sail Boat fresh water tanks.

I never really had any boating friends that used vodka for winterizing. I new of several that would sanitize their fresh water systems with vodka during the boating season.

I always winterized with pink. In the spring when we launched I would rinse the fresh water tank out at least twice then add a cup of bleach and rinse it out a couple more times. We still would not cook with or drink the tank water for another couple of weeks, or several more tank fulls.

As long as we're off-track with boats and vodka...

I was on a friend's boat on the Hudson River when the engine started to sputter, and died. Water in the fuel was suspected. "I don't have any dry gas," he said, "that would clear things right up." As we drifted toward shore, I asked, "Got any vodka"? He did, a full bottle and half another. We poured them into the fuel tank. Before running aground or doing a precautionary anchoring (in the Hudson that can easily cost you the anchor close to shore), he got the engine restarted and it ran fine the rest of the day.

Not sure how this would work with diesel.

What a waste of vodka. Must be the same people who would light a dollar bill on fire to light their cigars.

Well I guess if you get an economical source of alcohol to get to about 3%?
