Cleaning and treating the fiberglass roof on our DSDP

Fellow Newmarians I did a quick search on what products to use on the FG roof and a lot of the answers I found seemed not to apply to gel coated FG or from lower cost MH, TT's, etc.

So here's the question, what are you all using? Not looking for the easiest way out but not looking to spend a week up there either. 😏

The coach is a 2017 and has been regularly washed but only waxed once.

TIA.

John

Scrub it with mild soap and water. Rinse well, let dry. Follow with a good quality wax. There is no reason to not do exactly what a person would do with a Corvette or a fiberglas boat. Wash and wax is paramount to keeping it look like new for years to come.

Roof clean and coat

Steele,
You must remove the gel coat oxidation first. Get a drywall pole sander and put a coarse scotch bright pad on it. Then along with a good detergent scrub the roof until there is no more white residue coming off. Let it dry thoroughly for a few days. Mask off where the body paint meets the roof. Then go to Sherwin Williams and get a gallon of Sher-acryl
HPA coating. Roll on a generous coat with a standard 1/2” nap paint roller.
The HPA coating is extremely UV resistant, this will permanently eliminate all future white streaks.
A little time consuming but not difficult.

I use Meguiar's cleaner polish. I put it on by hand and use a buffer to remove. Cleans well unless the roof has a lot of oxidation then you would need a compound. After waxing I apply a coat of Meguiar's detailer polish. I do this twice a year and I do not have white streaks.

A roof is a roof and IMHO should never be waxed. I agree you want to treat it and keep it from sending white chaulky streaks down the side of your coach. But you certainly would not want to go up there, nor have a worker go up there and fall off.

I treat my one piece FG roof with 303 protectant. It is simple, effective, and doesn't make the roof slippery but does protect it from UV.

I agree---- the first time I used a paste wax but it was a real bear doing the non-skid areas that run the length of the coach on both sides. Since then I have used Optimum spray wax twice a year. It's easy on/off and provides good sealing and UV protection.

My concern with that is that while it would make it look good and shiny, that product probably doesn't do anything for UV protection since its actually intended for use on indoor flooring.

Ditto on the 303 and ditto on the wax. A slippery waxed roof could wind up costing you big time. I had a who neighbor slipped off his coach roof and was killed.

Concur with washing it with mild soap, perhaps with a bit of bleach to address any mildew. Once dry apply a liberal amount of 303 protectant or similar product. No reason to apply wax.

When using 303 on the roof, is it applied the same as on the Diamond shield, where you apply it to a small area, wait a few minutes and wipe off the excess with a microfiber towel?-Paul

As far as I recall no waiting required. I’m not sure you’d want to wipe off the excess on the roof.

Thanks All!

The coach is only 22 months old so is in good shape, no mold on it or white streaks coming down the coach. I don’t think white streaks are a real issue with this type of roof if it is cared for so I want to keep it in good shape.

I have lots of 303 so that’s the plan.

I like this idea as waxing the roof does not sound like fun, especially with solar panels, and I also worry about making the roof real slick especially when went (washing) but 303 says to reapply every 3-5 weeks... :-/
