Clearance Light Wire Color Confusion

I have a 2005 Kountry Star 3742 Gas coach. I am replacing one of the rear clearance lights. The wire colors of the old light are white and black. My Newmar wire color scheme from the Newmar Class A diagrams is ground is white and clearance and running lights wires are "green". My new light, which is the Newmar replacement, has white and red wires.

Has anyone done this before and am I safe assuming in all cases that white is ground and whatever the other color is it the positive side?

Most of the RV's I have run into the green is the running lights, and the white is ground, your replacement light the white is ground and the red is positive

If you ever open the panel for over head fans in cabinet above drivers seat you will run into something like this.

With in the wires are the heavy wiring for the front clearance lights but most of the wiring at this point are printed lettering as to where wires go and came from.
White should be ground ,if your putting in LED lights may just need to reverse wire connection for correct polling.

It has LED's from the factory. I did speak with Newmar today and they confirmed white "should" be ground, but they recommended checking with a meter which I will do. On the rear clearance lights, I can only extract a few inches of wire.

I did a couple of my rear lights this afternoon.

1) PULLthe light out. Its going to disintegrate, but pull it out. You can pull about 4 inches of wiring free. It will hang up on the crimped on wire connectors.

2) I cut out the silicone plug. That allowed me to extract the wiring. Yes, you will then find green and white wiring. The black and white wiring you are seeing is simply the wiring that is part of the light assembly. White to white, black to green. I used crimp on connectors of the same style the factory used. Lowes has them.

3) I use ProFlex sealer around the round part of the new light to seal it in the large hole. I also put a generous glob of ProFlex around the wires where they come thru the back of the light to help prevent any water coming through the light itself. I tightened down the lights, and ran a bead of ProFlex around the upper and side perimeter of the lights.

4) Note: I bought my replacement lights directly from Newmar. The base of the light is actually a little too large for the rear. (Fronts worked fine - they aren't recessed). I had to file down the sides of the lamp to allow them to nest into the recess properly. Not a big deal, just a pain having to do that while up on the top of a 10 ft ladder.

I did get the light out and as you say at about four inches it stopped. Didn't realize the light was wider so I will need to check that. Is it the Proflex RV sealer that you used?
