Coach Cockpit & Step Matts - Supplier Recommendation

Wanting to have something functional while stylish to protect the entrance floor area of our new Essex, we had these made to fit by North Texas Carpet Binding in Arlington, TX ( Custom Area Rugs - Arlington, TX - North Texas Carpet Binding ).

They offer a wide selection of both commercial and residential grade carpets or can use your own carpet/rug as you choose and are very reasonable on pricing for their services.

In our case, we made and supplied them with our template (cockpit floor) using cardboard and measurements for each step then choose a remnant from their selections that matched our interior flooring and had them serge all edges as well as install a heat bonded non-slip rubber backing.

End result: 7-custom cut and sewn pieces for $395 including tax and shipping direct to our doorstep via FedEx. We considered this a very reasonable price

That's a good looking carpet setup. We may look into this, as we use runners and other mats to protect this area, and the center isle down the coach. The problem with most of these is that if they are put over the coach carpets, they want to move, due to the nap on the oem carpet. How are the step covers held in place?

Looks great! I may have to look into these for once our coach comes in. Just like other posted, how does all the carpet stay in place? Also is it ok on heated floors?

North Texas Carpet Binding where we ordered the matts applied heat bonded non-slip rubber on the backside of each matt/carpet piece then serged all edges producing a well constructed matt carpet that will last a long time. The carpets hold in place very well on both the flooring and the steps and will not be a slip hazard nor would the be affected by heated floors. Our coach has porcelain flooring throughout (no carpet) and has heated floors also.

Here are some more photos of the carpets/matts installed. Very happy with the fit and finish and they'll be easy to maintain/keep up. I guess I may mention we plan (or at least will try) to have a "no shoes" policy in our coach to help in the housekeeping.

Good to hear. Once we take delivery I'll look into reaching out & calling them. How'd you decide on color & design of carpet? They send you samples? Lastly did you have carpet made for exterior steps as well? Can't tell for sure from pictures.

Did you have to send them a template, or do they have the measurements in their files?

We actually were in the area and went it. They showed us various remnant carpets they had and we chose one that we felt complimented our coach floors and upholstery.

Yes, we also had them make the exterior step carpets from a high quality black carpet they had in stock (as can be seen in the photos)

Key is to "make your own template" for the cockpit area you want and measure the steps then give them a call and discuss your needs. I also suspect that you can send them your own carpet and they'll cut and finish them to your specifications, i.e. edge type (binding or serge), backing, etc.

Not to my awareness. As I've stated above, we made our own cockpit area template (using cardboard) and gave it to them together with the measurements of our steps. I suppose they can work with any type template, ie. simple paper cut to the size and shape you want.
