Since we're on the topic of Comfort Drive, I would like to weigh in...

I've now put more than 20,000 miles on two different coaches which both were equipped with Comfort Drive and the very first thing I must say is that my ortho doc HATES Comfort Drive!
He has heard from me less in the last 20,000 miles of traveling than ever before...

I'm now able to stay in the seat longer and be more comfortable doing it...
I feel it's easier to drive the CD equipped coach,as it has become more of a "tool" for driving to me...
Taking the crown out of the road, taking the buffeting out of the cross winds and even the return to center feature are great features.
I've driven in all types of road conditions and all types of weather, even blowing snow...

In talking to a Spartan Director this morning, he stated that Newmar was trying to get 1 more year of exclusivity on the Comfort Drive.

He also stated that Spartan would be the only chassis with Comfort Drive. Freightliner and others will not have it.

He went on to say that other coach builders using Spartan can't wait to offer it.

There will be no retrofitting Comfort Drive on coaches not originally equipped.

In 2008, Dutch Star and above have electrical steering wheel tilt and telescope controls, which is controlled by small switches on the steering wheel.

Models below the DSDP have the floor pedal that resembles a parking brake pedal.

We took a test drive in the MADP today at the FMCA rally. I had understood the confort drive now comes with an on/off switch as standard. the tech from newmar claims there is no switch and it always remains on.
Can anyone confirm this???
PS. It sure was a nice drive.

Dave, That is correct, there is no "ON/OFF" switch nor is it needed. Once you get used to it, say 1,000 miles of varied road conditions and weather, you will never want to drive any MH without it. There a switch is kind of defeating.

Cannot think of a reason to ever turn Comfort Drive off. It is the "canned beer/sliced bread" innovation of motorcoaching.

In some demonstrations, I rigged a temporary switch to be able to turn the Comfort Drive off, just to show the difference. In every case, by the time I turned it off the third time, drivers would EMPHATICALLY tell me to put the switch down and leave it alone. To confirm others statements, there is no switch available to turn it off and no plan to create one.

A comment on the comfort drive. In perry I drove the dsdp and the madp. The dsdp drove like a dream and preformed as adv and exp. The madp, however faded to the right each time I turn the steering wheel loose. Three different road types and crowns. The tech stated the unit was out of alinement(sp). I don't know, but, we were in agreement of some problem. Overall it's my opinion that Newmar shined over the other mfg like a dollar over a dime.

Hi!

Just returned from Nappanee.
My first comfort drive experiance happened there.Never took the time to drive a comfort drive equipped coach before.
Always thought....big deal...can't be that much different.

WRONG!!!

After almost putting the coach in the bar ditch after oversteering, my Newmar personal trainer {heh heh},Kirk, suggested that I "lighten up".
Felt strange at first....

Now you can't take it away from me!!!!
Almost drives itself!

After hearing how great CD is I want it.
At the factory now, saw previous post, but I had to ask service rep if they could retrofit my coach with CD. He said he would ask.
I'll bet if they won't do it now, that when the other companies get it, than they'll want to do mine.
I am meeting with him tomorrow [sat.] he may have the answer.
Yes even the Kountry Star reps come in to help you out and catch up on their paperwork on weekends.

I talked to the brass at Spartan, the only chassis with CD, and there will be no retrofits.

Dirk
I tried to catch you today when you pulled into the rest stop on I75, but you were too quick for me.
South of there it look to me like a 5er toy hauler (northbound side) had gone into the ditch and upturned and was a hugh pile of junk. Sure hope no one got hurt.
All the best

Sorry I missed you.

I was stopping at several rest stops as my Silverleaf program was acting up, and I couldn't play with the computer while driving.

I saw the wreck and the trailer came completely apart. Looked like 10+ mile backup.

I'm in Port Richey now.

Ken, I love my Comfort Drive. When is it coming out with the joy stick instead of the wheel? Imagine the extra space.
