Considering "Downgrade" from DSDP to Ventana

I'm looking into a 2014 Ventana 4369, all electric. It appears to be well equipped. I'm at the Hoots III and the folks from Midway RV are here and the Ventana I am looking at is back at their lot so I should be able to get some more details on it and perhaps an estimate on the cost for the swap.

I'm as familiar as any avid Newmar owner about the technical differences. Has anyone made a similar move and if so, how did it "feel"? Any thoughts?

Hi Sky_Boss,
Except for the rear radiator, I think you'll find the 14 Ventana the same or better than the 06 DS. That is a clinical statement. How you feel about it, is the real question. By now, you know my view on the three most important items.
1. floor plan
2. carrying capacity
3. towing capacity
After that, one can make the decision as complex as one wants to make it.

Are you sure you want to give up your 400 hp ISL engine and go to a 340 hp ISB with DEF and all the emission controls ?

Once the floor plan issue is out of the way, here are some things I now require in a MH.

1. Independent front Suspension (Comfort Drive even better). I have owned two motor homes without IFS and one with it. It's really a no brainer. IFS required!

2. Side Radiator: I've had two with it and one rear mounted radiator. With my 2007 Kountry Star with a side mounted radiator, the temp never goes above 185F on any grade of any length. That was not the case with my rear mounted radiator MH.

3. HWH jacks. I've had two with them and another with another brand. Never again with another brand.

4. Under no circumstances accept a Norelco refrigerator. Either Dometic or all electric. Norelco has created the residential refrigerator market in motorhomes because of their poor design. No way anytime for a Norcold refrigerator.

Judging a new motorhome by those requirements is how I would look at the options.

Good Luck!
Wil

Why not "upgrade" instead of "downgrade" ?

It is 400 HP with DEF but your point is taken. I've been told that my pre-emissions 400 HP is nearly the same effective HP as at least a 425 HP engine.

For us, it was a budget decision. Just could not justify ( in my mind ) paying an extra $ 50k for a few more horses and some somewhat nicer finishes. The IFS would be nice but I have to say the Ventana rides really nice with the beam axle. The DEF thing is overblown. Its really not that big a deal or expense. Side radiator vs. rear - been discussed here in detail. May turn into a big deal if I don't maintain it, but so far, no excessive build up of dirt with almost 20k on the clock. Not out to trash the Dutchstar - its a really nice product. I feel the Ventana is great value for the money.

My new DS is only averaging 6.7 mpg I am sure glad to have the 150 gal fual tank. Will you be pleased with the 100 gal tank in the Ventanna?

We heavily weighed the differences between ordering a 2015 DS 4018 or a 2015 VT 4037. In the end we went with a fully loaded VT.

While the DS offered a few things that would have been nice to have, the VT fit our budget much better and is easily 90% a DS for 75% the price.

Yes a DS is nicer than than a VT but so is a King Aire or a Prevost.

We are very happy with our VT and it will probably will be our last MH.

Does the 4037 Ventana have the same 360hp 6.7 as my 3434 Ventana?

No. It would have a 400 HP ISL.

The 4369 ALMOST had us....
all electric,king, etc.. etc...

we actually parked next to one last weekend... and the wife noticed, but did not browbeat me (whew )

comfort drive did not float my boat that much more than what we have...
BUT, the epa junk did concern me in that it crippled my deezle pickup trucks and made them sound like blow driers on steroids

However we ended up with one that has part of the epa baggage, just not the def.
