Construction details of Newmar hung wall
I'm looking for someone who knows the details of the Newmar hung wall construction vs Entegra's. I have taken the both tours but I did not see how the Newmar wall was attached to the floor. I saw the Entegra was done by bolts I think. How are the Newmars walls attached? Any other observations or opinions on how the Newmars are constructed? What could they do better with little cost or added time?

Here is a thread about Newmar's wall construction.
What ever way its attached to floor deck may have changed, I can say I never saw day light with the walls detached from floor deck.
Other info about Newmar can be found here.

Thanks A good refresher. I did go through that thread before I went on the tour last year. I did not see how Newmar attaches the side wall to the floor, screws or bolts or some other method.
Maybe I will have to take the tour again and go for a few days including a Monday.
If anyone is going to take the tour maybe you can have a close look or ask for the details.
Thanks

I don't know if Newmar's wall attachment differs from Entegra's, but daylight is not the issue. The issue is movement as the coach crashes and bounces over road hazards, etc. Do the walls stay tight to the frame, or do they move around? Movement creates squeeks and other noises, and over time will loosen and weaken the structure.

Yes I'm interested in how the walls get attached to the foundation. Same question you would have in a home but because the "home" is moving even more important.

We've had two Dutch Stars and never had a problem with the walls moving no matter how they're attached so it must bee good.
Due to Entegra being a close kin of Travel Supreme which was started with a lot of Newmar employees they share a lot of similarities, but they may have changed a lot over the ensuing years too.

The walls are screwed at the bottom. I must admit the Entegra method gives me a better feeling, but, that being said, I am not aware of any coach experiencing a wall detachment problem. Whether it was screwed or bolted probably doesn't make a difference.

Maybe screws do not come loose with all the bouncing on the road. If it works use it.
Screwed from the top I hope?

I would be interested in knowing how many of each the different manufacturers use - e.g., maybe Newmar puts more screws in between the wall and the floor or maybe Entegra puts more bolts in. Depending on that it may be one is stronger than the other just due to the number of secured points. Or maybe the two styles of attachment balance out. Screws are pretty good fasteners as long as they bite in deep enough.
Normal houses are not screwed together but simply nailed together. That'd last about 500 miles in an RV, that's for sure.

I am not an expert on Newmars, but I think the aluminum studs are fastened to the floor and the wall is "hung" off the studs. If you mean the fiberglass wall then that is glued and screwed the (16 inch on center) vertical wall studs. Built like a house. Hope that helps.

The screws that go though the studs to the floor hopefully are special high strength screws and they are long enough and enough of them.
I remembered the bolts at the Entegra tour but can not picture how it was done at Newmar....must be that old age thing going on.

The screws do not just go into the floor there are 2x3 wood studs under floor and the glued fiberglass walls overlap the screwed floor aluminum stud to the compartment framing below floor level.

Can we then assume the 2x3 framing is some how secured to the main framework?

Entegra does use approximately 5/16" bolts about every 2 ft., same as Travel Supreme used. I found another use for those bolts because they served as drain holes every time I flooded my coach floor.
As I toured the Newmar assembly line, I was surprised they simply screwed the bottom plate to the floor, again on 16 in. centers, they told me. Didn't get a close look at the screws, but would "guesstimate" they wouldn't have been over 12 ga, about 2 in. long self-tappers. I watched a guy space those screws out a lot more than 16 in..... . No, as a construction engineer, I was NOT impressed with that form of attachment. But I have to admit, I've not heard of anyone with a problem resulting from this practice. Still, running a series of bolts through that bottom plate HAS to be a superior method of attachment for a house moving down the road at a high rate of speed.
What looks inferior to me is the fiberglas batting used to insulate walls. I don't care how much glue they use, those batts are subject to settlement as that house shakes around going down the road. I wait for the day when they'll blow urethane into those wall cavities, which is something that won't move, while sealing off all material gaps.
