Cummins ISL 9 Mobil Delvac™ 1300 Super

I stopped at a Freightliner shop and was told to us the Mobil Delvac 1300.
After doing some checking with a Mobil Customer Service representative about Mobil Delvac™ 1300 Super - I was told that Mobil Delvac™ 1300 Super does not meet the requirements for a Cummins engine isl 9l 2014 for CES 20078 OR CES 20081 - at one time it did - but not now.
Cummins recommends Valvoline Premium Blue.

I find this subject frustrating, in another thread this week, I reported that I called Spartan and their answer was they use Rotella T4. I’m guessing either would be fine.

Those CES numbers are old specs. This is the statement from Delvac about 1300 Super:
"Confirmed to meet API CK-4 requirements by Cummins, Detroit and Volvo'.

ces 20078 to api ci-4/sl
ces 20081 to api cj-4/sl
these are the new classification
Mobil Delvac™ 1300 Super does not meet the requirements
API CK-4 is a old classification

You need to have this discussion with the American Petroleum Industry who wrote the spec. CK-4 replaced CJ-4 as the latest standard in 2016. CK-4 is backward compatible with CJ-4, CH-4 etc. There is no CL-4 yet.

I just use the Rotella T4. It's rated for the Cummins engine, is easily available at Walmart and comes in 2.5 gallon jugs. I scored last time I bought some. Wamart only had a five gallon jug left, something they said they don't normally carry and he was willing to sell it to me. I asked them to double check the price, to make sure it would show up at the register. When he checked it, the price was $17.00. I told him.....you know that's not right.....he didn't care.

Here is the label on the Delvac 1300 Super jug, for my engine. It specifies meeting CK-4, CJ-4... and specifically Cummins CES 20086, 20081.

On edit: Cummins always recommends Valvoline Premium Blue. We don't know what the deal behind the scene is. One thing for sure, Delvac 1300 didn't go through the approcal process, either Mobil didn't submit it for the approval or failed to pass the vetting. However, Mobil claims it meets or exceeds the requirement. Admitted my engine is different than yours, and know nothing about Newmar coaches. I just happened to have the jug in hands and saw your post on Cummins forum too, so took the liberty to chime in.

Is ces20086 a higher rating then ces20081 ?

x1 Just checked one of my jugs and it does say meets Cummins CES 20086 and 20081

With current rebate through Dec 31, 2018 … the price is also right.

Oils meeting CES 20081 are "permitted" but those meeting "CES 20086" are recommended. Do not use oils that only meet CES 20078 if you have a new engine with DEF after treatment. All the major companies new oils meet CK-4, so I don't think you can even buy CJ-4 anymore.
