Cut and Buff Paint Process

Can anyone tell me if the "cut and buff" paint process is identical across the entire luxury line of Newmar coaches? Or, as example, does the King Aire receive more clear coat applications than the Mountain Aire?

Thanks,

Jigs

Hi jigsup,
There is a difference in the exterior finish steps across the Newmar Luxury line of coaches. In the past, that difference has been information proprietary to Newmar.

I believe the Essex and King Aire get another coat of clear, over MA and LA. Which get more clear then Dutch Star and down.

Cut and buff just means sanding down all imperfections and polishing the shine back. Imperfections can mean a lot of different things. Such as dirt, drips, runs, sags and heavy orange peel.

They is absolutely no way what so ever to get a perfect paint job every single time. Cutting and buffing is the only way to achieve the same results over and over.

Thanks, John.

I know they will only do the cut and buff on the luxury line of coaches (MA & up). When I was configuring my build order, I asked Ken Williamson if I could order it as a "special" on my Dutch Star during the build process. He explained they could not, primarily because of the logistical constraints of not having the man-power and available floor space inside the paint building; it's a very labor-intensive and time-consuming process.

I am simply curious if each upgrade model in the luxury line-up receives additional clear coats than the model below it. It appears to me the finish on the King Aire is much deeper than the Mountain Aire.

Hi jigsup

When we toured the paint and buffing facilities last year at the factory, the Essex and King Aire went down a separate paint line in the paint building and then went to another building for their cut and buff. Those 2 models have differences in both the base coats and the clear coats from other models in the lineup. I'm not sure if they're still doing it that way. As GaryKD mentioned, they have traditionally been very secretive about the exact details of their painting process, but the paint quality on the Essex and King Aire look the same to me.
