Dash AC 2015 Baystar. Should Newmar pay?

Folks I'm not sure what I'm looking for. A general consensus I guess? Anyway on our last trip in May 2016 the dash AC quit Got it to a RV service place and the guy says "yep" a hole in the hose! (see photo) After 2 weeks..a custom made hose..and $620.bucks it's cold again. Anyway turns out it's not a Ford thing because all they put on is the AC compressor. Everything else especially hoses are custom made for every coach. According to the mechanic and the photo, the way in which the hose was routed caused it to fail. Yes the 1 year Newmar warranty has expired Has anyone else with a Baystar or Canyon Star had this issue? And..and I know here we go again...should I try to squeeze the Big RV company for 620. if it appears to be a design flaw issue? Thoughts????

Though I am not a BayStar owner, I would suggest adding a little more detail about the location of this line and where the line was rubbing that caused the failure. I would bet armed with this information many other BayStar owners might catch this problem earlier with a small amount of preventative maintenance.

I hope you didn't pay $620 for just the hose , but that included the R&R and evacuating/charging the A/C system.

To your original question, Yes I would contact Newmar, explain what happened and request that this be warranted. Your not too far out of warranty and if this line abrading caused the failure its something they should have caught. For me its not just about the $620, its more about Newmar reacting to a manufacturing defect and if this problem is happening too often then their reaction should be a manufacturing change-- though the $620 will buy you a lot of gas!! The only way they will know about problems is if owners are communicating, and looking at warranty claim data. I would start by having a discussion with your selling dealer and having them contact Newmar on your behalf as well. I would also be contact with Brian Fuchs (pronounced Fox), customer service manager at Newmar. Be patient, be polite, it might take a few calls, and some escalation but I would expect them to help out somehow.

Mike

I would call customer service and ask, it can't hurt and like said they may take a look at how they are routing the hoses. I have found Newmar's customer service to go overboard to help customers.
