Dash air

Last summer we made a maiden voyage in our DS 4362 across AZ, NM and into Dallas Texas. During the day the air conditioner would start off blowing ice cold air, as the day went on it would not blow as cold. We would have to start the generator and run the roof air to keep the coach comfortable. This was even worse as we headed to the west, into the afternoon sun. Has anyone else experienced this? I drove a truck for 30 years and did not have this issue with the A/C unit. I know that the cab of the truck is much smaller, but the air should not warm up like it does. I brought it to the attention of the dealer where we purchased it and was told by the service writer that it is "just that way". He told me that in the summer he hears complaints about the A/C and in the winter he hears the same about the heat from the dash.

We have had three coaches. The dash Air in the first two, both Monaco’s, was worthless. I lost count of how much money I threw at them with no results. The dash air in my Third coach, a Newmar Dutch Star, worked great.

A big difference between dash air on an over the road truck and a diesel pusher is the extra thirty some feet between the compressor on the engine and the heat exchanger under the dash.

The Dash AC in the RV is pretty much near exactly the same BTU as the one in your truck....and like you mentioned, the RV has a LOT more cubic feet and a lot more glass where the heat goes. So yup, you will have to supplement the dash AC with some coach AC.

Might want to consider putting a curtain wall between the front and the coach area to localize the AC to just the front if it's a big deal and the passenger is always up front with the driver.

The problem you are describing, "sounds" similar to the PDM recall.. ,in case you have not had that recall performed.



when AC goes out,have you checked to see if the tail lights, or marker lights also go out. see attached recall.
