Dash radio - 2000 gasser

I have another A/V Electrical Problem. When I bought my rig a week ago last Saturday the guy told me the dash radio (Sony) would not put out sound. It comes on but he's right there is no sound coming out . I removed the dash hoping to find a loose wire or plug. No such luck. Everything look's in place. Any suggestions on where to start looking for the problem? Maybe a easy fix?

Thanks
Patrick

Welcome to the forum and irv2, Patrick.
If you go into QT's 1 & 2 all the way to bottom of page you will come to MOD's I put in my 2003 coach, it will show a I-POD install installation and a unit that you may have under your dash board.
Have you checked the FAD Control to see if it turned to the rear bedroom speakers?
Your bedroom speakers have switch's on wall that maybe off.
Your front speakers multiple between front and kitchen.
When you shut off radio make sure you press OFF twice so its off completely and chassis battery will not be drained.
All the links below in my signature have info for your coach.
This link will get you to all TSB's for the coach plus brochure and owners guide.
If you have a Workhorse chassis you need this link.
Let me know how you make out, enjoy the forum and safe travels.

The radio will have two power sources , one battery for the memory , and one from the ignition to tell the radio the ignition is on , and if it's anything like my Sony ( AM/FM/CD) with removable face plate , it also has a fuse that plugs into the back of the radio under the wiring connector .
Can you post any info on your Sony's model number.

I pulled the dash and looked at all the wiring. Saw nothing obviously out of place. Saw a small box mounted on the floor with several rca plugs from the radio going to it. Don't know what I was looking at. So I'm still stuck with no place to look. Again it's a Sony CDX- C475 deck. It powers up just no sound coming out. Checked the fader it's OK.

Any chance you could post a picture of the box with the RCA wiring , might jog somebody's memory .
Or it could be a " hub " for getting sound from the TV into the coach speakers.

Info on posting photos is in the " FAQ " drop box , center of the dark blue bar across the page , under the Google search box.

I had a Sony with removable face plate, I never got that radio to work and the disc never shut off it would pull my coach battery down. I discovered this after hearing a very faint sound and tracked it to the Sony. Even with the face plate off it would not stop. AM FM Radio's are cheap. I replaced the unit, works great.

found the problem

Sorry it has taken me awhile to get back to this radio problem. I believe that I have located the problem. I 've got broken speaker wires . Found the left side speaker wires in the left hand cabinet above the steering wheel . There was a access panel in the back. Removed this panel to reveal the wiring coming up the side column from under the dash. The right side wires are there also. both sets are going up in the ceiling from that point. The break for the left was right there close. Spliced them back together and the left side is working. The right side on the other hand is not and apparently the break for them is in the ceiling some where. Appears to be from the speaker over by the sink to the front speaker in the cabinet to the right of the TV. Just a guess. Hooked my tracer to the speaker over the sink and to the front one, no continuity. I did take a wire and run from the front speaker to the wires coming up from the dash and that speaker worked. Any suggestions on how to find the break, I have no idea how to take the ceiling panels down to start looking for it and really don't want to do that. I don't want to just start guessing and cutting holes in the ceiling. Thanks

For the most part the ceiling panels don't come down.
If you drop the vent trim sometimes you can get enough room over the insulation to fish a wire through.

Do you have an over dash TV.?
If so have you had it down to check for speaker wiring crossing side to side behind ?
If you're removing the TV , don't do so without help handy ... the original TVs are HEAVY !
