DEF

I've read several messages about refilling the DEF tank. I have used the plastic 2.5 jug and on occasions, used the next lane to fill the tank.
I watched a video that talked about a magnet inside the DEF tank or one that you place on the nozzle. If I get a 5 gallon container, will I need a magnet to make the pump work? If so, where do I get this nozzle magnet? I have a 2014 that will be around for awhile so I need to figure out a plan to keep my tank filled.
What are your thoughts?

Mike,

I use a an old def 21/2 gal tank and just refill at def pump and then put in tank at end of day when we stop for night. No special magnet needed.

Mike,
I have only encountered the magnet Setup at Love's truck stops. I have not encountered them at Flying J's. I was able to fill a 5 gallon container at Love's, just took a while since I could only trickle it into the container.

There is a special tank that senses the nozzle. I did a search a couple of months ago and they only sell the tanks in 25 gallon plus size.

Read another post the other day where a guy bought DEF from Walmart on two occasions and the container only contained water. Apparently, someone used the DEF, filled it with water, resealed the carton and returned it to Walmart, so they put it back on the shelf. I bought a couple of jugs from them, but haven't opened them yet.

Ohhh great !! I bought a few jugs from Walmart along the way, including one where cardboard box had been opened / retaped. Plastic jug still had foil seal, but I guess anything is possible. Back to Amazon I guess *g*

Prevost converter, Millenium Motorcoaches has figured out a way to move the DEF fill up to the front by the fuel fill. If they can figure it out then Spartan and others should be able to follow and we can then fill at the truck stops.

I would like to find a filler neck extension.

So stupid to recess the tank fill.

If you want me to do something good for the environment, don't make it a pain in the butt.

DEF is diesel exhaust fluid and its what is used to treat the diesel exhaust so the emissions comply with federal standards.

John, I know Walmart and Sams sells the Peak product, Blue DEF for about 12 bucks. It comes with an extension spout, but not sure if it's long enough. Anyone out there tried it?

The best deal I have found on DEF was at John Deere for about $10.50 and it had a long spout.

Sounds like a deal, Dan. Pick up a few jugs, save the spouts and then you can buy from others in a pinch. Those spouts should fit most all 2.5 gal containers.
Remember, DEF does have a shelf life which diminishes in warmer climates, so don't stock up too heavily.

The Walmart spout fits fine for my coach.
