DEF Guage not working

I took my 2015 DSDP to the Newmar dealer to get some warranty work completed after just completing a 400 mile trip.
My DEF green light stayed on as if DEF was full.
when I arrived at dealer I shut engine off but had to restart a few minutes later.
Well the engine light came on and the DEF indicator was on RED.
I immediately put some DEF in the tank.
Could I have done damage to the engine?
It could not have been out very long as I topped it off before last trip and can't imagine I completely ran out, but engine light did come on
Thanks

The engine doesn't use DEF, so no damage. DEF is introduced into the exhaust stream. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
