DEF Head Failure?

Have you had the dreaded DEF head failure in your motorhome which left you stranded hundreds of miles from home?
Turns out there is a way to work around this malady by a simple software fix but Cummins refuses to budge to make that fix available to its customers unless you drive an emergency vehicle like fire engines and ambulances. A recent article states that the Cummins execs have the power to make things right.
We need to petition these people to release a software update to help us stranded diesel engine owners.
As a group we should flood the email boxes of these people to get us back on the road.
You can voice your thoughts to the Cummins representatives listed below.
Ask them to release the software now!

Vice Chairman: Tony Satterthwaite – tony.satterthwaite@cummins.com
Chief Executive Officer: Tom Linebarger – tom.linebarger@cummins.com
President and Chief Operating Officer: Jennifer Rumsey – Jennifer.rumsey@cummins.com
Chief Financial Officer: Mark Smith – mark.smith@cummins.com

Do you have additional information on what the software fix does? You reference an article, please forward that link. Thanks

A friend emailed the article to me this morning. Unfortunately it cannot be copied and pasted and there was not a URL. It was written by Russ and Tina De Maris which I think is associated with RV Life? Wish I could simple post a link or copy it. Someone else more tech savy might have better luck.

I did not know much about the topic until reading this article.

As I understand it - the EPA granted Cummins a special waiver to create a software that would prevent emergency vehicles from being derated. Obviously they do not want ambulances going to the hospital at 5 mph.

Good luck getting the EPA to grant that for "Pleasure" vehicles.

I have seen the various lengthy posts on people that have suffered from the failures but never really understood the root problem.

This article was extremely helpful. Now I feel better prepared if I am one of the unlucky ones in the future.

It might be helpful to use this article to start a new post with a title that attracts others to educate themselves?

From someone sitting in a coffee shop right now while his rig is having a def sensor replaced after waiting more than a month, the best pressure on Cummins to apply for a waiver for rvers is from major manufacturers. Winnebago etc.

Fact check, the EPA has to issue a waiver first so it's not a Cummings decision. That requires a lot of red tape. The bad part is there is no indication that anyone, has requested a temporary waiver for either RVs or even the trucking industry. We do know is that it is only the monitoring system that is defective not the emissions itself so a bypass would not result in mass air pollution.
