Diesel Canyon Star or V8 Baystar

Does anyone own a Canyon Star front engine diesel?

We are looking at Baystars and wondering if we would need a front engine diesel. I won't be pulling anything heavy, so probably will go with the newer Baystar V8.

I am curious to see how you like your diesel puller!

Don’t own either but I’d suggest concentrating on the floor plan. The Canyon Star is a toy hauler, which is why it’s a front engine. Toy haulers are not for everyone so you should keep this in mind.

Check on the annual price to service a diesel compared to a gas V8, might help you make up your mind.

Canyon Star...if new.....is a front engine diesel.....but available only in "toy hauler" models! Is on a 30,000 GVWR Freightliner chassis.

Bay Star....if new....is a "gas" engine chassis, & depending on model, could be on a 22,000; 24,0000, or 26,000 GVWR Ford F-53 chassis. The 26,000 GVWR chassis seems to be the better of the three, but is "model" dependent.
The 7.3 V-8 seems to perform quite well, & according to some who have them, the new chassis rides & handles better then the old one.

I would suggest that the "floor plan" or "Model" is the most important part of your choice, as it will fulfil or not fulfil tour wants & needs!

The 23 "Bay Star" has had a lot of nice upgrades, & is now closely comparable to the previous gas "Canyon Star" models.
My opinion, "Canyon Star" is the best available "gas" coach in the marketplace!

Good Luck!

Are you shopping for a new or used model?

Not all diesel Canyon Stars are toy haulers. The Front EnginE Diesel (FRED) started with the 2021 model year. We own a '22 CSFD 3927, which is a toy hauler, but that in that year four out of five floor plans were NOT toy haulers. It seems the three 2023 floorpans are toy haulers, and I don't know what the plans are for 2024.

For the record, we love our diesel "puller". It has great torque climbing mountains. We have travelled to Yellowstone and live in the mountains of East Tennessee, so we've had a chance to climb a few hills.

There are no shortages of opinions on the differences between gas or diesel motorhomes (costs, maintenance, etc). In the end you should look for a floor plan you want and prioritize the other factors.

Good luck!
