My wife and I have been looking at the two Bay Star types. I just don't see the difference between the two. I' looked at the brochure and still can't see the differences anyone with an idea ?

Bay Star Sport is just a cheaper version of the entry level Bay Star, about 17K difference in base MSRP. One of the biggest differences is the Bay Star has full body paint and the Sport does not. Not sure about interior finish differences.

Here goes with some of the differences. Disclaimer: This is not a complete list. The list could have errors depending on floor plan. Newmar does not make this comparison easy to do. The BS has and the BS Sport does not have (as standard equipment):

Being a Baystar Owner please accept my advise and opt for the Baystar. While $17,000 might seem more expensive the full body paint makes it worth it just by itself. I did not have the full body paint option on my 2007 Baystar. It doesn't take long in the Florida Sun for the decals to crack and the gelcoat to dull. When you look at the other differences that GaryKD listed you can see that there are a lot of things you really need like toilet paper and towel racks, automatic steps and lighted bays not to mention the TV antenna. The Baystar Sport looks like a good deal in you live up north and intend to use it only on weekends. JMO

Thanks for your opinion. It's great to hear from someone who has had such an experience as yours. I do appreciate the information. I have to admit GaryKD did convince me that the Bay Star is the way to go. But you information just seals the deal. Thanks again for taking the time to respond. It's great to hear others options and experiences.

Found a great deal on a used 2013 Bay Star 3012 (a discontinued floorplan). I don't like the floorplan or colors as well as a new 2014 Bay Star Sport 2903 that I had also been considering.

Having someone else take the first year's depreciation and knowing all the extras that I'm getting on the 3012 compared to the 2903 makes the decision easy.

The list previously posted isn't accurate, especially for the 2015 lineup. The Sport now has full body paint. Here is my summary for Bay Star to Bay Star Sport
What is the same?
- Wall and roof construction, which is the same across the gas line
- Engine and transmission
- Chassis depends on model
- Basic cabinet construction
- Windows
- Fuel, water, waste tank capacities

What is different
- No passenger workstation
- No drawers in the dream dinette seating
- Sport doesn't have LED lighting
- No options for side view cameras, or upgraded stereo, upgraded TVs including Sony (sport has Visio TVs)
- Sport doesn't have an outside shower
- Sport has fewer options in general
- Sport has a bottom of line dash radio, and no wood trim on passenger side
- Microwave is smaller in Sport and no option to upgrade

Moving up to a Canyon Star includes a lot of details as standard, many more options, better TVs, stereos, higher capacity chassis and 22.5 wheels (vs 19.5 on Bay Star Sports). Note engines, transmissions, wall construction is all identical. On the Canyon Star, a fiberglass roof is an option, whereas it isn't on a Bay Star Sport.

Price difference is $30,000 to go from a Bay Star Sport to a Canyon Star. And it is about $10,000 more to go from a Bay Star to a Bay Star Sport (negotiated pricing).

With Newmar options on one may be standard on the next model up or may not even be available as you are finding. We ran into that when we ordered our present DSDP. I wanted the aqua hot in it and was told I had to go up to a MADP to get it. Just wasn't worth the extra to us at the time. Takes some studying of the standards and options to figure out what you want. Also remember that sometimes Newmar will do specials but not if what you want come too close to the next model up. We had them remove two walls and pocket doors, substitute a different vanity and counter tops, plus reverse the computer desk layout.
