Differences in towing 1/2 ton & 3/4 Ton PU

New KA with ISX 600 without toad and only driven 200 miles at 60 mph is getting 7.1 mpg.

I plan to tow 4 down one of two future pickup trucks hauling a Harley Ultra (980Lbs) in the bed.
F150 weighs roughly 5750lbs.

F250 diesel weighs roughly 7470lbs.

F150 with Harley = 6730Lbs.
F250 with Harley = 8450Lbs.

difference of 1720Lbs.



Any feed back on pros and cons of these two and approximately how much should I expect the mph to be from your experience?

We have some people that pull large trailers with their K A for all their toys and with the 600, mileage would not matter to them.
Difference in weights of two vehicle's four wheels down would not seem to matter to much with the 600 pulling them either, would it?
A man with a stacker. Maybe he has some mileage info in this thread.

Yes 007 that helps sounds like his KA pulling 16K is still getting fair mpg of around 5.6

With a 3/4 ton PU and Harley in the back I would think close to 6 mpg would be somewhat conservative if I'm 7.1 without tow.

I tow a Ranger with a 1000 lb Road Glide in the back. Originally I towed it with my v-10 gasser and now with the 450hp DS. The difference in mpg is negligible.
The reason I went with the ranger was I had the gasser and was limited in towing capacity, now with the DS, I may get a larger truck. I use a rampage lift to load the HD in the Ranger. Here's a pic with the old MH.

When I looked at the Fords last year, the 1/2 ton was towable 4 down with the electronic transfer case, but the Ford 3/4 ton required the manual transfer case. I didn't like the floor space it occupied, so I went with a chevy.

The weight is not much difference, so really it depends on the other uses of the truck.

Red Baron I will prefer the 3/4 ton due to handling the bike and loader better. If the mpg is not effected that much then it will be 3/4

What kind of ramp system do you plan on using to load your bike? My friend has a Ram 2500 Diesel (has a 2" lift kit) with Load-All ramp. He tried to load his wifes Road Glide, which has been lowered and it bottomed out on the transition from the ramp to the bed of the truck, he had a heck of a time getting unstuck from the ramp. Any pointers on loading a bike in the bed of a pickup? He is a little gun shy now, the other day he went to load his Limited on his truck and got it up there a few times but not the most smooth loading. On a level road the ramp is about 19*-20*, so when you ride up all you see is the sky. I figure with practice it will get easier, but right now he found an area where he can park the truck lower than the road to reduce the angle.

I like the response on the Rampage Lift. My Bike is a 2013 CVO Ultra weighs about 975 with fuel and misc gear in the tour pack.
