Direct TV Genie

While we love the open floorplan of this coach, we do miss the recliner we had in the BR of the old coach. It allowed one of us to watch TV in each room....Me, the ballgame and DW? Who knows? Now one of us ends up watching TV on the bed, falling asleep and then can't sleep at night.

So here's my solution: I installed a wireless Genie, hooked up to the front, over-the-dash TV. A simple install, involving a DTV bridge (router) connected to my SWM splitter. Behind the TV goes a wireless Genie client, connected to the TV through an HDMI cable. I connected an audio feed from this client into my Sennhauser wireless headphones so MY ballgame audio feed doesn't affect the DW! I can sit in one area of the LR, watching the game with my headphones and DW can use the TV's audio for her shows. IF you're still into cuddling.....MAGNIFICO!

The wireless Genie seems to work well, no delays or frozen pixels, etc, so I would recommend it for anyone who needs to send a signal to a remote TV without having to re-wire. This would allow one to get away from all TV's having to use one feed....i.e., LR, over the dash and basement. One can simply plug the Genie client into the back of ANY TV in the coach and watch whatever, using the separate RF remote. I'm anxious to try it out in my tiki hut next winter, eliminating the long HDMI cable I presently use. For another $6.50/mo., I consider it a bit cheaper than a divorce!

Nice look! The previous owner of my coach ran HDMI cables from the entertainment center to all TVs so we didn't need to go wireless. The Genie box feeds the splitter which feeds the main TV, head banger & outside TV. A coax from the BOMB feeds the client to the TV in the bedroom We also opted for the RF remotes instead of the IR since the main remote is used by Sandee when she watches the outside TV to control channels and such. The RF remotes are nice.

I considered going wireless since I do have a router or 2 hanging around. LOL However...you mentioned a DTV bridge. Was that a special device or just a funny name for a router?

My major project this summer is to restore the original DVD/VHS player that also feeds the overhead speakers in the living room That is unless I can find a smaller unit that I can use. It is really a mess in that rat's nest. LOL Maybe I will reconsider the wireless configuration.

BTW...I would consider a sound bar in the living room but just don't really have a good option for locating it. The darn DVD player is rather big too.

OK I am a geezer in training and have seen this several times what is the DW in this statement? I think I know but figured I better check. "MY ballgame audio feed doesn't affect the DW!"

By the way nice solution to your dilemma.

Mostly used for Dear Wife. I might have a few other meanings that DW should not be privy to. LOL

Skyboss, it's a router, supplied with the wireless Genie. I have no idea how it might differ from a plain ol' router, but you can look up it's description on Amazon or probably Solid Signal's website. DTV gave me the Genie setup "free of charge"

DW? ....I keep thinking it outta be "DISHWASHER". But better keep that thought to myself.

the DTV Wireless Bridge is a specialized router with coax inputs and custom security and encoding. It transmits on in the 5Ghz band. It has worked almost flawlessly since i got it when it first became available. I had some interference issues at Fort Wilderness, where I had to reset the unit several times to gain control with the remote.

Since our Winegard SK-3005 was converted to SWM by the use of a SWM8 on the roof, there were multiple unused connectors. I decided that, rather than going wireless, it was easier and cheaper to have a coax run along the roof from the SWM8 to a new roof penetration in the bedroom area. We used a "protective bracket" for the penetration and caulked it well. I'm using a wired C41 client in the bedroom. Remember that with a SWM system the signal for the client can be derived anywhere in the system.

Good point, Doc. I'd forgotten that. Might be a good option to hook it to the BR TV in case I can't get a strong WiFi signal to the TV out back....might give a better signal.
