I've got a 2-lnb Dish 500 antenna and a new Dish 500 receiver with two satellite inputs. The instructions for the receiver say that it won't work properly if both satellite-antenna inputs aren't used. The only thing is that there is only one connection in the compartment under the RV to connect a coax cable to. Has anyone else used a similar Dish network receiver in their RV with an external antenna? If so, how did you get around this problem?

To use your rooftop antenna you will need a dual LMB which, if there is not one there already, can be bought from your mobile sat dish supplied or manufacturer. You then need to have an additional RG-6 lead from the antenna to your receiver. Alternitively you could just buy a stand-alone dual LMB Dish 500 tripod dish and set it up on site. For this you can run the RG-6 from the dish to the cable input on your coach. Most RV manufacturer's use RG-6 for the internal wiring.

That's what I want to do - use an external dish that has a dual LNB on a tripod. But like I said, there is only one coax connector in the compartment under the RV. So has anyone found a way to get the other coax into the coach? Or can you use a diplexer and tee one coax that goes to one LNB to both inputs on the receiver?

No you definately can not join to LNB's via a splitter. In fact the frequency from the dish is too high to even run through a splitter. You will need to run two new RG-6 coax to from the outside directly to your receiver location. The existing cable input on your unit goes to the RF feed selection panel located above the dash in the overhead cupboards. An LNB will not run through the selection panel as the frequency is far to great. And yes you will require two LNB feeds to even operate the receiver.

The method above, sat. feed and cable feed will work. There is also another way. You can use a combiner/splitter sold at radio shack, they allow you to bring a single line in from two sat. feeds. You then put another combiner/splitter on the single line coming in and it goes back to two sat. feeds for the receiver. I used these to bring in a dual LNBF signal into the house, using only one cable to come in.

lhenderson, I was not aware that there was a splitter that would work on a LNB line let alone the ability to combine it and re-split it. It would have to multiplex the signal. Do you know the part number or exact name of the piece?

Two weekends ago, I put my Dish 500 with dual LNB with a bucket of sand to hold the pole. Ran my cable from one of the lines to the receiver and my TV set up outside. The other line was left dangling. It worked fine.
I am in process of now setting it up properly but still only plan on using one of the cables on my portable dish.

I missed one point you stated. My receiver I was using is set up for one TV only. I have dual receivers in the house, and the installer had to run the second TV off chanel 21 and tied them thru the preinstalled cables used with Time Warner. Not sure if a dual receiver will work only hooked to one TV. Sorry, I had dual LNB's
