DIY project or not??

2012 Canyon Star 3856. Getting ready for a big summer trip and 2 slides will not go in all the way. Front of one sticks our about 1.5 " and the back of another the same. Couple of years ago on a trip had corner of one slide stick out about 5". Is this a project that can be DIY or should I do what " She who must be obeyed" wants me to do and call a mobile guy.
Thoughts???

Search You Tube for slide out fixes and see if you want to tackle this.
Could be simple and save you a bunch of $$$$$$.

As always, the answer to that question depends on you.
Your background / experience, your tool box, your time table, your list of friends.

So what did you do to fix it a couple years ago? Hydraulic or electric motor slide mechanisms? Could be a synchro issue that requires a simple recycle of slides in and out, or a drive motor mount is broken/loose, or a gear/rack has jumped teeth and needs significant intervention. Either way, be careful with moving the slide in or out--having the slide "catawampus" in the opening can create major issues.

Old Scout, last time we had to get a mobile mechanic to come out. I should have payed attention to what he was doing but didn't. I'll look at U tube and see what I can find.

Depending on what slideout controller you have, it may be you need to adjust the soft limits on the controller. It's a pretty simple process, no tools needed. Go to the sticky Important infromation for Newmar Owners, then select LINK TO PART'S FOR NEWMARs most years. This will take you to the Newmar Parts page. Follow Top Level > HELP & REFERENCE > TECHNICAL INFORMATION > SLIDEOUT > Slideout Mechanism, and select more info on
KIB - Dual Slide Controller (DSC100). On page 7, you will find a picture of a DCS100 controller. If it is the same as yours, on page 8, section 3.1 are instructions for programming the soft limits. I've had to do it to my kitchen slide a couple times. It only takes a few minutes. If you're uncomfortable doing it, watch a tech do it, and you'll see you can do it yourself next time.

Without knowing what type of slide setup you have in your 2012 Canyon Star I will tell you how I fixed my 2020 Bay Star had a similar problem a few years ago. It was caused the TransTroque Bushing (TTB) not being tight enough and it slipped causing the front to stick out when the rear was fully retracted.

There are numerous threads on this forum about this.

On our rig, the front cog wheel is hard connected to the motor via a square shaft. The rear cog is on a round shaft which goes thru the TTB. To adjust our rig, the rear of the slide was extended a few inches, the TTB was loosened using the Crows Foot, the front of the slide was recessed by using a large crescent wrench so it was extended the same as the rear.

To get the TTB loose, you must bang on it, to let the pins (I'm sure the a correct term for these) get unjammed.

The TTB was tightened and torqued to 175ftlbs, while keeping the square shaft from turning. Ck with Newmar for your correct torque--it may be less than 175ft lbs.

Tools needed were tape measure, 250ft lb torque wrench, Crows Foot 1 1/2" (available on AMZN), crescent wrench large enough for the square shaft, 1 1/2" pipes to extend the crescent wrench handle and torque wrench handle. Some strong muscles or ?? to hold the square shaft from turning when torquing the TTB. I used a BIG block of wood & wedge to rest the crescent wrench + 30" pipe on.
