Does anyone have one of these on their microwave?

This was on mine when I got it (2016 used) and at first I thought it was a travel safety catch but the door latch seems a little weak and now Iím thinking it was added by the last owner or the dealer.

Itís also not mounted quite plumb and level so.....?

Yep, looks aftermarket.

Most microwave ovens have a pretty good latch. It seems odd to have to add that latch.

I installed that same latch on a mini fridge we installed in the old tube tv area in our front dash between the seats. Bought at Walmart in the baby-proofing section.

Itís definitely after market. Just wondering if they put them on Newmar rigs, maybe from the dealership? Guess Iíll have to look at the door latch a little more closely.

We mentioned to Newmar that the microwave came open while traveling on I-40 and the glass tray came out and shattered when it hit the floor and cracked a tile. They replaced the tile and we had already bought a new tray. Found glass under the FWS for weeks. Along with other debris. They installed a regular drawer latch on the bottom of the door. Worked great until we changed microwaves. The new one has a stronger latch.

Newmar installed a secondary latch when the coach was built. It is the same latch as used for the drawers mounted to the underside of the door/microwave.

It's one of these, that I also fitted to my microwave after the door flew open going down the road.

Hmmm. That's interesting. We haven't had any problems with the microwave door opening but we have had several drawer latch failures over the years on two different Newmars. I even bought a 5-pack of replacement latches so I have some on hand. At least now I have a solution if the microwave latch becomes an issue for us. Thanks.

We had the same thing happen to us, thankfully, without the cracked tile. Found the same appliance lock at HD. Now put glass tray in drawer and lock door closed before travel (belt & braces).

Ours has a cabinet latch on the underside that was factory installed. We do have on our departure checklist to install a pool noodle in the microwave to hold the glass tray in place incase the door comes open.

Upon looking back at the eBay order, I find that it was a 4-pack, not a 5-pack. Either way, the price was right...

Same thing happened to me coming out of the nearby Blue Beacon Truck Wash into the street. Big lurch, the microwave door flew open and the tray fell out and shattered. Floor not damaged, but we found pieces of glass in the bedroom, bathroom and all round the kitchen area. Ordered a new tray on Amazon, but now one of checklist items is to take the tray out and put in a drawer under the stove top.
