Domestic Royale Refigerator

All,

I am currently parked in Oklahoma City. Last Monday the temperature went to 105F with no wind. My refigerator shut down due to poor ventulation on the outside of the coach. Temp in rerig went to 63F. I was lucky enough to have a basement cooler so I could put all my perishables down there. I contacted a local RV repairman and he suggested I take off the cover outside and put a clip on fan there and blow the air up the through the coils toward the vent on top of the coach. This guy has been real heplful. He could not get to me til next week so he gave me some over the phone help. His name is Bill and his service is Bill's Mobile RV service, 405-414-4785. So I did and the refrig coils started to cool down. By 6 am the next morning the temp was down to 40F and that afternoon it was at 35F.

So if your refrig shuits down during hot weather try that trick. Any other tricks or tips are appeciated.

Welcome to the forum & irv2.
Whether its a Dometic or Norcold they both will have same problem. There are many threads on the cooling problems.
Here is one that will lead you to many others.
Norcold has fans but poor cooling coils setup, Dometic has less of a problem but does need help with added fan in rear vent area.

Hi wrb7636,
I installed fans at the top and bottom of the refrigerator chimney. Go to Refer Vent Coolong Fan #1 - iRV2.com RV Photo Gallery to see the fans at the bottom of the chimney. Go to Camco Solar Pannel (2) Roof Vent Refer Fans - iRV2.com RV Photo Gallery to see the solar fans at the top of the chimney. Go to Refrigerator 12 VDC Fan - iRV2.com RV Photo Gallery to see the fans I installed inside the refrigerator. For me, fans are the secret to keeping the unit cooling.

Gary, I've been thinking about getting the solar fan too. I have a fan I'm mounting in the bottom area of the compartment as you did. Where in the chimney did you mount the solar powered fan?

Hi rocknrun,
When one removes the chimney top plastic cover, you'll see a wire mesh screen. I think this may be to keep out critters. I cut the screen and placed the fans (2) just under the screen. Then I wire tied the screen back in place. I also used silicone sealant around where I made the cuts. The sealant may not be needed , but it made me feel better.

Thanks Gary! I've never had the fridge vent cover off so it was kind of a myster to me as to what's up there. Mounted and wired in my computer fan in the bottom compartment this afternoon, will tackle the top this week. We are headed to Myrtle Beach soon and if there's no shade at my site I figure my fridge will need all the help it can get.
