Dometic AC Warranty Questions

Does anyone have experience with Dometic's two-year warranty on Penguin AC units?

My six-week old AC unit failed and I can't get into a "Dometic" Service Center here in Western New York until late July. Dometic suggests that I purchase a new unit and have a mobile RV Guy install and send in all the receipts to Dometic for reimbursement.

My question is: Has anyone had experience with this route? Is Dometic easy or hard to work with to get reimbursed.

I just had one replaced on my coach under an extended warranty plan so not exactly the same but here are some things to thing about.


I took several weeks to locate and ship a replacement unit.


I had to take my coach to the mobile tech's facility because of the weight of the unit required two people.



Disposal of the failed unit.

The Penguin II's weigh 100Lbs. Not easy for 1 guy to get it up to the roof.

Really wondering why Dometic is telling you to replace the entire unit. Makes me think it's out of freon. Usually they send a tech out to diagnose the Control Relay Board first.

Over the years I've had 3 Dometic A/C units go bad on my coaches- they never have tried to repair them- they have always replaced them with a new unit.

If memory serves me correctly- I think they have a 2 year warranty.
