Dometic door shade won't extend
When I attempt to extend my Dometic door shade the cover moves a very little bit, maybe an inch, then stops but I can hear the electric motor still working and nothing happen.
Then I can retract what little did extend to where it is completely closed up.
What is happening, and is there anything I can do? I will have an 800 mile trip home Monday and would hate to have to contend with a partial open shade all the way. Would be nice to have it out here in camp but sure don't need any problems.
Had to replace a stopped up fuel filter on last trip and not used to problems on my trips. Getting too old for that.
Appreciate any advice or suggestions. Thank you.

Oh well!
Bummer. The fact that it will retract is good news. Otherwise you would have to use a 3/8 inch socket wrench to ratchet it in.
That's about it for the good news. You can see if the techs can put it back into service but if you have to replace it, they are very expensive. Ours (VTDP 2016) did the same thing. To be honest, we rarely used the door awning. Considering the cost to replace/repair, we opted to zip tie it in the retracted position and continue without using it. Three years and we haven't missed it.
My natural inclination is to have all features in working order but I caved on this one and don't regret it. I'm sure others will be more insistent that it be returned to working order. It's certainly not essential so you decide.

For some reason, my door awning hung up and wouldn't open. I removed the two end caps and it worked. I put them back on and never had an issue again.
You also have a big white crank that came with the coach, if it's a Girard awning. Try cranking it open manually, without forcing it and see what happens.

I have the Girard awning on my 2015 DS but hardly ever use it for the same reason Bushy said about his door awning, I have only used either door or the Girard awning a couple times in 7 years, afraid of it going out but not back in.
Don't remember ever seeing a crank for the Girard awning.

My mistake....I missed the heading that said Dometic. I would still try to manually open it.

So this is the small awning over the door ?
Mine was hanging up on one side when extending. I manually pulled it open, lubricated the hinge points with WD 40, and also wiped down the exposed strut cylinders with a rag/ wd40.
Works like new

Unfortunately I have never purchased a ladder tall enough to reach these things. I have a 6' folding ladder that lets me wash the windshield but it is pretty flimsy.

Understand. I have a good ladder that is collapsible down to about 6’. Legs can be extended to equal or different lengths so worked great with shorter legs inside MH entry and long leg on ground. Fits ok in basement.
