Dometic Penguin 15k HP question

our front dometic a/c will stop sporadically when cooling and display the hourglass on the digital display (display is a shared display for hvac and the tanks).. after a few minutes it will kick back on for a while... doesn't seem to be time dependent, but will monitor that more closely.. anyone ever see this before??

I would venture to say the unit is low on refrigerant and freezing up. A temp sensor is located on the front of the evaporator coil that senses a freeze-up and will shut the system down to thaw. Look for ice buildup on the evaporator coil when it shuts down to confirm it. If you can't directly see the coil, you may need an endoscope. Good luck.

BTW, if the unit is under warranty, you should get a new one after you jump through the hoops. The trailer I owned several years ago went through 3 Dometic A/Cs under warranty.

Depending on the air temp and humidity, they can freeze up and then run through a defrost cycle. Sometimes you can change the fan from AUTO to one of the fixed speeds and stop it from happening.

Thanks Don,
I was thinking about doing that to keep air recirculating as well... what speed tends to work best to keep cool air distributed.

This thread from 2 years back has a lot of good suggestions on keeping cool in the heat: https://www.irv2.com/forums/f103/tip...er-450321.html
