Door not responding to remote

Entry door not responding to the remote, cargo doors work fine. The keys work fine in the entry door. Is there supposed to be power to these pins in the door jamb? Newmar CS was not all that helpful.

Does your remote use batteries?

Yes, I had thought of the batteries, but the cargo doors respond to the remote just fine. The entry door will not respond to the remote or the keypad on the grab handle. The cargo doors respond to both the remote & the keypad.

We had something similar when we bought ours. It was a faulty actuator in the door lock itself. Dealer replaced it.

Did you try the button on the dash for unlocking the door? The picture you posted is the contacts for the door lock/unlock. If you put a voltmeter on the contacts on the door frame you will see a momentary 12 V pulse when you lock or unlock the door. Make sure the contacts are clean and they are lined up with the contacts on the door. On my Dutch Star the lock/unlock button is the last button on the right under the radio. If it works on the dash but doesn’t work from the Fob, you may need to reprogram the key fob.

Good luck finding a Salesman Switch.

Don't look to hard, there is none.

Hi - We had a "salesman" switch on our '18. It's not labeled as such but is often called that. On the passenger panel.

Just went through this process and wound up replacing the failed OEM remote control module (which was obsolete) with an Avital 2101L unit. However, before you get to that point:

You can use an ordinary 9 volt household battery to test the control module in the door. You can use jumper wires with alligator clips or just press the battery terminals against the contacts on the door. Reverse the battery to test both lock and unlock functions.

If that does not work, before going further, I would remove the two screws and pull out the door contact switch module, pull the wire connectors from the switch terminals and clean them.

You did not indicate if the keyless entry keypad worked to actuate the entry door lock. If it also does not work then the first thing to do is to push the contacts of a 9 volt battery against the two brass pins (door side pins) in your photo. One battery contact postion should lock the door and the other (battery rotated 180 degrees) should unlock it. You will hear the push-pull actautor inside the door clack as it changes position. If the battery does not operate the actuator then you may have a bad actuator or bad coach side contacts. You can buy a push-pull actuator from PTL Engineering 810-664-2310 who makes the door. Instruction video is online at their website. I replaced mine without too much work.

Key fob is supplied by Trimark 800-447-0343.

There is also a slight chance that your Trimark radio frequency/control module is not working. It receives the radio signal from key fobs and the wired signal from the keyless entry pad and controls door lock. Trimark techs can help you troubleshoot the system. The small module box should be located in the dash behind your gauge panel. It may be buried under cables inside the dash and hard to see.

Remote contacts

Hello kbrede - try sanding the contacts (in your photo) lightly. We had same problem with Ventana and that cleaned up contacts... Good luck

Thank you all for the great insight.

I forgot my basic troubleshooting skills, like applying power to the pins to see if that made the actuator work.
I will have time to test things further today and will report back with my findings this evening.

For the person that asked about the keypad, it does not work the door either, just the cargo doors actuate. So the entry door is completely unresponsive from the keypad, remote, and the switch on the dash.

Now where did I stash that multimeter and test leads?

Yes, and you have to lightly burnish them, jamb and door with a dollar bill or crocos cloth a couple times per year

We were having the same problem with the entry door lock. We just cleaned the contacts and everything works perfectly. Thanks for the help. This is a great forum.
