Interesting timing. I found one small ball bearing on my carpet this last weekend. Had no idea where it came from. I think I blamed my wife. I guess I need to check them. Thanks for the heads up.

We had a flat place show up on the carpet, for maybe 2 years before the bearings came out. Not sure why it flattened out the carpet except that perhaps the roller was totally seized up, and working back and forth while driving, flattened the carpet. The slide did not seem to bind on deployment in either direction though. Doesn't look like the flat place is going to clear up. DW is pretty up on issues like this, and she says it will never raise back up. So, word to the wise, if you see a spot about 10 inches long flattened on your carpet, that is under the slide when it is in, better check the rollers.

We are second owners and have two roller indents on the bedroom carpet from the bed slide. They disappear quickly after the slide is out. I guess I need to check them out.

Slide out rollers
Okay-
I had a friend (Roy) come by last evening and he has an '06 40' Dutch Star.
He has two rollers (seperate times) that have failed on his MH. Both times he took it back to Newmar for replacement/repairs. It said it took them 15 minutes to replace the rollers- I asked, of course, "how did they do that?"
Here's what they did--
They placed a long piece of 2x6 on top of the slide, up against the roof. Then the slide was retracted to the point that it jammed the top of the slide, and then tilted/raised the floor upward in the coach- just enough to have access to the rollers- and then they stopped the retraction motion- Cool, easy idea -- , Neato How easy can that be while your on the road with a spare roller in the storage bay. As I think about this more, two small pieces of 2 x 4 or 2 x 6, might suffice. I carry those with me for the jacks now.
Any one else have this experience? Comments?
Oh, I'm going to machine some new rollers out of aluminum and put "real" sealed ball bearings into each end and carry them with me for my next, upcoming failure. I'll do this the next time I pass by the Stick & Brick home and my shop.
The present rollers are junk. Roy said his are exactly like mine- I showed him a spare I carry with me.
I did this thread on my living room slide out. My bedroom slide is altogether different- anyone have a problem with the smaller, non-raising slideouts?

I think that procedure is in the new Newmar Slide Spec in QT's 1 & 2.
This is what I found: GENERAL SLIDE OUT INFORMATION-- ITEM # 4.
You can do same thing replacing carpet or floor tile.
This thread is in QT's three with your other ones Max, thank you for bringing it to our attention.
May even be in the old one.

Thanks 007-
Wow, what a recall memory you have- is "Jepordy" in your future?
Here is what you are refering to in item 4. This was written to replace carpet/tile. This is the same process I used to replace my failed roller.
The process I outline in thread #19 is different.
A board is placed ON TOP of the slideout and the slideout is then retracted until it jams the top of the slide out and the inboard edge of the slideout floor raises up until the rollers are exposed- and then the electric motor is stopped.
This is what my friend Roy saw the Newmar Factory guys do to change a roller.
Much easier to do and 15 minutes of work involved, if you have a spare roller with you.
