Dreaded DEF Head Sensor Failure - Perfect Timing & Location

Got the dreaded DEF Head Sensor failure. About 1 hour into our drive on Friday I got the 1st code. About an hour later got the 2nd code while fueling up at a Pilot off I-40 in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Called Spartan. Was advised to get to a Cummins Service Center right away & they would ship the replacement part right away. I asked them where is the closest Cummins location? Lo & behold they told me there was one 200 yards away - lucky us! Called them right away. Told me to come over & that they have RV hookups - again, lucky us!. They ordered the part right away. Will be here on Monday. Parts & labor will be covered by Spartan. Excellent service from Spartan & Cummins. Best case scenario, I guess, if you’re going to have this problem! I just wish that Cummins would resolve this problem once and for all! Service advisor here told me that they are constantly replacing them on all types of vehicles & that Cummins still hasn’t found a permanent fix for this.

One of the other posters on here lost his DEF head on his 2019, one day into his trip last month. I know some are stocking a spare in the coach, but they're pricey.

it will vary as it progresses.

3364 DEF Quality
3031 high temperature
1791 Tank level

The head just stops communicating with the computer.
Hopefully this generation 6 header will do the trick. Head is certainly different from the gen 4 head.

I checked my codes from yesterdays check engine lights.

Did your check engine light have a check mark ? Did it stay on or go out? How long can you drive? Sounds like I'm next. I was in regen and had to exit the fwy and the light came on for a few seconds. When I got home it came on again for a few seconds and went out.

I drove from North Little Rock to the FMCA campground in Cincinnati where I got the full engine derate. Stuck two weeks waiting for backordered part. No part number but I did take pictures of old and new.

The lights stayed on the entire time. It was risky but I was on my way to Spartan and thought we might make it.

The gen 6 is more vertical, gen 4 is L shaped. There were absolutely no marking or numbers to indicate what version it is.

I hope this helps.

Can someone explain why this problem appears to predominantly affect the Newmar product line? Am I missing something here ??
