Actually the only time you’d want it off is when the RV is in storage with everything off.

My inverter is on all the time except when I put it in storage.

Your inverter will go off-line automatically when shore power or generator power is present. Just leave it turned on and it will manage itself.

If you turn off the battery disconnect switch when you store the coach, do you also need to turn off the inverter?

Keeping the inverter on, will provide a seamless transfer of power when you shut the generator down. Example…..if you're watching the TV and turn generator off, the TV wil stay on and not have to reset.

The inverter is only needed when running off of the house batteries. That is when it is “inverting.
When you are on shore power or on generator power, the inverter “bypasses” and runs 110 thru the circuits.
The inverter will charge the batteries when on shore or generator power. (Solar, too).
Do you have a remote panel for the inverter? If you turn the inverter of remotely, the power will stay on and
it will save a few amps, allowing the batteries to charge a bit faster. This really helps if you are trying to charge by solar.
Just be sure to turn it back on before unplugging or turning generator off.
Yes, you can just leave it on, too, if you want.

OP says the generator is running, so it's the 120vac source.

Typically, yes.
But also be aware in many coaches the inverter is directly connected to the batteries - the battery disconnect switch does not disconnect the inverter - and the inverter has a power draw on the batteries even when turned off. In this case to completely stop power draw from the inverter add another disconnect switch right ar the batteries. Some coaches have this additional disconnect switch function - usually labeled inverter disconnect.

I leave ours on all the time just so I don't have to reset the microwave clock every time we have a power blip or disconnect.

Thanks, everyone. We'll leave it on and let the coach do it's thing. Love this coach!
