Not sure if it is belt or direct drive, but it could be a squealing belt. If so, you would need to open it up and check belt alignment and ensure it is properly tightened/adjusted...

Does it screech with a light load in it, or is it the fact that it is possibly over loaded with very wet items?

Most likely the belt is making that noise and I believe the belt is self tightening with a spring loaded idler pulley.

The belts in these usually have an belt tensioner/idler (a spring and either a wheel or slider made of a slippery material like teflon or something like that).

We had a dryer at home that made that noise at startup for years before the belt finally gave up. Replaced it and it still made the noise, probably should have replaced the tensioner/idler. Ran it for 4 more years and then gave it away.

Thanks for the info... if I run it empty no noise, put a few things in, definitely not overload, it makes an off and on squeal for about 3 or 4 minutes, Iíll run her til she blows 😜

Often the bearing in the idler pulley dries up and disintegrates. I wouldn't keep running it until it dies, as that idler puller can eventually catch fire, especially with a little lint build up. It's a pretty common failure.

Thanks Don, guess i will have to pull it out and check it, sounds more like a belt slipping than a bearing gone bad.

If the idler pulley (bearing) is seized then the belt will slip. Sometimes you can get the pulley apart and with a little emery cloth and some high temperature oil make a temporary repair. Until a new idler pulley and belt can be attained.
