DS 4369 - HWH Hydraulic Oil Level
I have a 2017 Dutch Star 4369. In a phone call to Newmar, the lady told me to check the HWH Hydraulic fluid level. She said to check the level with jacks retracted and the FW side extended.
I have no HWH Manual in my manual bag so I went to Newgle. Evidently I have a 725 HWH hydraulic system.
In a HWH document titled Hydraulic Oil Level it said to check the oil after retracting Jacks and Slideouts.
In the 725 HWH manual, it says to check the oil with jacks retracted and room extension cylinders completely retracted. I have no idea whether the cylinders are retracted when the room is extended or stowed.
Lots of conflicting information. Can someone enlighten me on the proper way to check the HWH hydraulic oil level? Obviously, the jacks must be retracted but what about the full length slide out?
Thanks,
Rex

Everything should be retracted to check oil level.

Retract slide and jacks.
https://newgle.newmarcorp.com/s/arti...draulic-System
Extend slide and retract jacks
OP has a valid point. 2 sources that should agree don't.
I would look at the fluid and find the point it is higher, slide in vs out. Whichever that is, is where you want to check level.

Does anyone know if the FW slideout hydraulic cylinders are retracted when the the slideout is extended or retracted for travel?

Judging by the different directions, one might presume the FWS hydraulic is retracted when the wall slide is extended, but if you do as suggested by RedBaron73, you’ll know for sure and can report back to the rest of us!

You want to check when all the cylinders are in the shortest stroke using the less fluid. This will have the tank at the fullest point.

Following up on Art's post immediately above:
For an immediate answer, check fluid level BOTH ways. The "way" with the higher fluid level is the correct one.

In 2016 a number of coaches were shipped with low hydraulic fluid levels in the HWH hydraulic reservoir. The attached TSB 436 explains how to check the level and how to purge air from the system.
The TSB states to check the oil with the jacks retracted and the FWS extended. This is the way I have always checked the hydraulic fluid level on my 2016 DSDP.

Even this TSB is messed up:
Step 7 is cycling the FW slideout in and out. Right under that is an "important" message to have the slideout extended during step 7.

Here's another question not addressed in the manuals. When you insert the Cap/Dipstick to check the level, do you screw it in or simply insert without screwing the cap in?

I use a dowel to measure mine but I need to check the level using the two methods mentioned. I checked mine initially with slides in, jacks up, added fluid. Now I find I have a mess of excess tranny fluid in my HWH bay. I don’t see any leaks, fittings are tight so I think maybe the fluid came through the reservoir cap. When DW returns home from her shopping I will cycle all and look for leaks, check level.

Ok, I checked with the jacks down(extended) and slides in, I checked with slides out and jacks up, I also checked with slides out and jacks down. The highest volume I measured in the reservoir is with slides in and jacks up. I will measure that way.
I think the fluid I found in my bay was because I filled the reservoir with all components extended. I never saw any leakage during operations.

Sorry for the confusion. One cannot edit these posts … I said initially I checked my levels with everything retracted but that was false. The first time I ever checked the levels, I did with everything extended. I believe that is how I over-filled my reservoir. After doing the experiments suggested above I find I should have everything stowed for the most accurate volume.
