DSDP Light Switches
Considering a Dutch Star. Walk into one on the dealer lot and try to turn on the lights. I find it nearly impossible to read the backlight light switches. Any fixes or replacements for these?

Help me understand what is so impossible to read about them. I have a 2016 DSDP. The wall mounted switches are blue backlit. The lettering is small and without my glasses I can't read them either, although I know what buttons are for what. With corrected vision I have no issue reading them. It's only in the morning before I put on my glasses I can't read them. However I know where the switch is I want in the morning.
Are you saying with corrected vision you can't read them due to size? Or is there some other issue?

I find it really hard to tell which option is selected, 1 2 3. I can "read" them alright, it's the little buttons I find hard to decipher. Sometimes I find it easier to just click them until the main button is off. Then I click them on in order so I know which option I've chosen, 1 2 or 3. At first I bent over and looked straight at them to help. It's not the backlight, it's the selections that I find hard to read. Colorblindness doesn't help since I think there is blue and green involved.

I agree in regards to the heated floors. All other buttons I can read just fine but it's very hard to tell which level of heated floors are on. I do the same of flipping through until off and then hitting the amount of times I want for either low, med, or high.
Side note- the heated floors are amazing! The other night it got down to around 45 and all we used was heated floors for heat and coach stayed toasty around 68-70!

Just so you know, the backlighting on the switches is adjustable. It can be high, low and off. They also do some other things I've earned along the way from others. All lights in the coach can be turned on or off from the panel by the door.
Our bedroom lights have a separate high, low or off position since one of the panels is on the underside of the bed cabinet and is right in your face at night. When you turn off the back lighting, you have to touch one of the switches first, to get the backlight back on, then turn on the light you want to use.

Don,
You can only adjust the backlighting or even turn off completely on the bedroom switches unless you know of some trick I'm not aware of? If the others can be adjusted or even turned off can you let us know how. Thanks as for us right now we put sticky notes over some of the switches at night (hallway by our bunks) to keep the light from waking up the kids sleeping in the bunks. I am aware of how to turn off light switches in bedroom by bed which also does bedroom wall, but I have not been able to adjust any other throughout the coach.

Fsudelt,
Not sure what floor plan you have but on our 15 DS 4018 you can Di or turn off the switch plate backlights for the living room/kitchen using the switch plate located on the curb side behind the passenger seat. This is in addition to the one in the bedroom that controls the backlights for the bedroom and rear bath.

Look at the Ventana, good old fashioned toggle switches.

I suppose they have their advantage, but I prefer being able to turn everything for a particularity "room" on/off at one location (including everything in the bedroom from just above my head while laying in bed) as well as everything in the entire coach from one panel right at the door. I find they're pretty easy to read, especially on the brightest back-lighting setting. At night we turn the back-lighting off in the bedroom but generally just dim the rest so it's easy to find the light switches if you get up in the middle of the night to let the dogs out or whatever...

Ok I'll play around with it tonight & see if I can get other backlights to dim or turn off. We have a new floor plan for 17, 43 bunk model (bunk mid ship with 2 full baths).

Back to the OP who raised this issue. I can understand the advantages of the multiplex system but it still requires you to be able to read the switch labels. I can turn all my lights on or off in the pitch dark by feel. Maybe time for Newmar to move in to the 21st century and give us all voice activated systems.

I can adjust backlighting in the bedroom, nowhere else. Must be a change from 2015.

Thanks especially to Dutch Star Don re adjusting the brightness on the switches. Will check this out next time I am at the dealer. That would make a big difference.

I found the other backlight switch! On our 2017 model it's light switch right next to televator & is bottom left button. It turns off front by door, living room, dinette, & hallway. Only thing it does not is front bath, rear bath, & bedroom (however bedroom has its own backlight switch). Thanks so much! Hallway was driving us crazy as bunks are right across from them & we'd put sticky notes over to keep darker for kids sleeping.
